Review: BBSmart Alarms Pro for BlackBerry

Software Title: BBSmart Alarms Pro by BBSmart
Price:
$15.00
Available at:
BlackBerry Sync Store
Overall Rating: Rating: ★★★★★

If you’re anything like me, you’re busy constantly. Running too and fro, do this, do that, meet here, pick them up there, have lunch with friends at….oh NO WHAT TIME!?!?! Thankfully I found a simple remedy to a common problem. BBSmart Alarms Pro is a simple but very useful program packed with good, solid features, but isn’t overwhelming at all. Its simple, yet intuitive design is easy on the eyes, and not overbearing like some programs I’ve encountered.

When you first start, you are greeted with the area, where your “Regular Alarms” will be viewed, it’s here where you can also create “Quick alarms”. The quick alarms feature is a simple timer; you can set it from 1 minute, up to a maximum of 99 minutes.

Here we the section where you can create, and customize your “Regular Alarm”. You’re able to set your alarms name, time, and what days you want it active. This is where you can also set one of 11 colors to color code your alarm.

As you scroll down you come to even more customization features. The program comes preloaded with four sounds, and you are able to use your own from the device itself, or from your media card. The features for vibration while in alarm and to silence itself when taken out of the appropriate holster are very nice additions to the program.

All in all this is a worthwhile program for all my fellow blackberry addicts out there, with too much on there hands at once, and just let time slip by unnoticed.

Pros: Clean and useful UI, the quick alarms feature is really useful, well rounded, and very clean.

Cons: The preloaded sounds that came with the program are the only significant complaint I have actually. They are corny, irritating, but they will still grab your attention. The only other issue I had was with two of my themes only a portion of the quick alarm setup was viewable, though I was still able to tell what was there.

Compatible Devices: 7100g, 7100i, 7100r, 7100t, 7100v, 7100x, 7105t, 7130c, 7130e, 7130g, 7130v, 8100 (Pearl), 8110 (Pearl), 8120 (Pearl), 8130 (Pearl), 8300 (Curve), 8310 (Curve), 8320 (Curve), 8330 (Curve), 8700c, 8700f, 8700g, 8700r, 8700v, 8703e, 8705g, 8707g, 8707h, 8707v, 8800, 8820, 8830, Curve, Pearl

Viigo gets updated for BlackBerry Storm!

viigo_logo

If you know me I’m addicted to two things my BlackBerry and Viigo. Viigo keeps me updated with all my RSS feeds plus weathers, stocks, sports and tons more. Anyways they just sent me an email to let me know they’ve released a new version (Build 3.0.856) for the BlackBerry Storm. Apparently it improves overall stability, performance and usabillity plus adds the new shopping service and the ability to add tweet articles right on your BB. Download it by visiting getviigo.com/beta from your BlackBerry.

Review: MSDict Concise Oxford American Thesaurus for BlackBerry

Software Title: MSDict Concise Oxford American Thesaurus
Price:
$14.99
Available at:
BlackBerry Sync Store
Overall Rating: Rating: ★★★★★

With the thesaurus from my college days being held together with a rubber band, the thought of licking my fingers again to flip through the pages kind of creeping me out for it was passed around a lot back then, well I knew it was time for a new one.  So I chose the MSDict Concise Oxford Thesaurus and I am not disappointed.

I decided to do the OTA install on my 8320 with the offline option so I could have it available on those long flights with no bulky book to carry on. The other install option is wireless mode which means instead of the whole database installed on your SD card you have a small part of the database installed then you need a wireless connection to to access the bulk of it. The MSDict program is always installed on the main device. Read More

Use your BlackBerry Storm’s Accelerometer as a Level

levelpro-screenshot_1
Our BlackBerry software store is full of many different applications but this one really caught my eye! Introducing Level Pro from Mobigloo. Level Pro allows you to use your BlackBerry Storm’s accelerometer as a level and ruler simply by calibrating your device to ensure its perfectally level. This is quite a neat application and is definantly worth the $4.99 in The BlackBerry Sync Store. Here’s a video that shows exactly how cool this app really is…
