RIM CEO says SurePress is here to stay, No comment on Storm 2.

rim-d7-006

Interesting news developed today during an interview at D7, when RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis was asked about the “rumors” on the internet that the next gen Storm will not click, he said “We don’t comment on rumors. But SurePress is here to stay”. This is interesting news considering the recently leaked photos of the Storm 2 show a non-clicking display. Could this mean that RIM will introduce several new Storm models this year? Possibly one with SurePress (clicking) and one with TruePress (non-clicking)? I guess we will have to sit back and see…

What do you think? Will RIM introduce a SurePress and TruePress model?

att-blackberries-may24-picture-10-rm-eng

Engadget got a hold of supposedly a leaked presentation showing off some upcoming BlackBerry devices. This presentation shows the highly rumored BlackBerry Magnum, Onyx, Pearl 3G and Gemini are all heading to AT&T this year. Now I’m not to sure if these slides are official or not. If AT&T did make these they should really look at how to properly type BlackBerry (not Blackberry). You can check out the slides below and here is a recap of the specs:

  • BlackBerry Magnum: Full QWERTY keyboard with touchscreen, Optical trackpad, 3G UMTS, HSDPA, Quadband GSM, Wi-Fi, GPS and HVGA display.
  • BlackBerry Oynx: 3G UMTS, HSDPA, Quadband GSM, HVGA Display with 480×360 resolution, trackball navigation, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, GPS and Wi-Fi.
  • BlackBerry Pearl “Next Generation 3G Model”: 3G, UMTS, HSDPA, Quadband GSM, Suretype keyboard, trackball navigation and aGPS. No sign of Wi-Fi…
  • BlackBerry Gemini: Quadband GSM, QWERTY keyboard, Trackball (?) navigation, 2.0 megapixel camera with no flash, and media keys.

Tip: How to use Messaging Shortcuts on a SureType Keyboard

blackberry-pearl-8100

I decided to check up and see how RIM’s new official blog “Inside BlackBerry” was coming along. One of the writers over there by the name of Mark, who is the email expert posted some great tips on how to use SureType shortcuts. SureType is a great system designed by RIM to simplify and condense your keyboard. One of the first tips I offer new people coming to the SureType input method is DO NOT watch the display when typing. Trust me this will help you a lot when learning. Anyway Mark has written the basics on how the shortcuts work with the SureType keyboard. Here’s a quick example: You’re in your messages folder and you just scrolled all the way to the bottom and you don’t feel like rolling your trackball back up hundreds of emails, well all you have to do is following one of these shortcuts below.

Press 1 – Move to the top of the open message, or the top of the message list (newest message)
Press 7 – Move to the bottom of the open message, or bottom of the message list (oldest message)
Press 3 – Move one screen up in the open message / message list
Press 9 – Move one screen down in the open message / message list
Press 4 – Previous Day Open the previous message
Press 6 – Next Day Open the next message

Hopefully this helps out any of the readers out there who are using a Pearl or Pearl Flip…

Did Storm OS 4.7.0.141 Fail Internal Testing? Most likely.

verizon-logo

Late last month it was rumored that Verizon was getting ready to launch OS 4.7.0.141 for the BlackBerry Storm. Latest word on the block is that the OS actually failed testing by the Big Red (aka Verizon). Apparently .141 was full of little bugs and too many glitches still occur. Last thing we heard is that RIM will not be releasing anymore 4.7 releases for carriers to test because their getting ready for OS 5.0 roll out. So looks like Verizon customers might be stuck loading on leaked OS’ until an official one comes. Stay tuned for more details…

RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie Wants To Buy A Hockey Team And Move Them Too!

jim-balsillie-phoenix-coyotes

Here’s something to howl about if you’re a hockey fan. RIM Co-CEO wants to buy the Phoenix Coyotes. Before I go into details, let’s see how the offer came about. The ownership group of the Phoenix Coyotes had filed for bankruptcy protection May 5, 2009. The filing as noted by a news release also included was a proposed sale for $212.5 million by an organization organized by Co-CEO Jim Balsallie. The NHL was not aware of the bankruptcy court proceedings and since removed Jerry Moyes, who was in charge of them, from acting on the behalf of the team. The NHL has taken ownership of the team.

makitseven

Jim Balsallie has been trying to bring US hockey teams to Canada for the last 2 and 1/2 years. This includes the Nashville Predators and Pittsburghn Penguins. Both were dropped when the NHL denied the relocation of the teams. It’s no secret that he has a passion for hockey, he heads to a hockey rink once a week at 5:30 am to train and plays twice a week in a local old-timers league. He loves his hockey and sports, and no one will argue that. Balsillie has also started a public plea for help by coming up with a website called Make It Seven. The sale is with the condition of relocation to some undisclosed area in Southern Ontario.

coyoteshelp

The Phoenix Coyotes and their fans have not sat back quietly either. They have come up with a website for public support as well called Save The Coyotes, and even asking for fans and Arizonans  on Twitter to please show support and to help by purchasing a t-shirt called Keep It Six. They are hoping to find a new owner to outbid Mr. Balsillie and stay in Arizona.

A bankruptcy judge still has to accept the chapter 11 filing and the purchase offer. From that point any other bidders may bid for the team and try to outbid Mr. Balsillie. Now if the bankruptcy court decides they cannot force the team to move, then the deal will fall through. So ultimately the fate of the Coyotes rests in the hands of the courts and with the influence of the NHL. Whether or not they find a new owner to outbid Mr. Balsillie, we will see. If the Coyotes do relocate, they will be returning as they were once the Winnepeg Jets before coming to Arizona to become the Phoenix Coyotes. If Jim Balsillie succeeds, does anyone care to make a guess as to what name might await the Coyotes?
