BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac – Available Today?

bbtour-mac-dtm

Not too long after being leaked on to the internet, Word has come from @BlackBerry on Twitter that Desktop Manager for Mac “might” now be available! Finally Mac users will no longer have to use useless applications like Pocket Mac to sync their BlackBerry. The new Desktop Manager for Mac from RIM also will allow software updates, installation and removal of apps, iTunes Sync, and lots more. As I am writing this post the download link isn’t available on RIM’s website, but it should be there sometime today…

Update: Seems that RIM has removed the Tweet and Facebook note… Not sure what to believe now. Stay tuned until we hear more.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 will have “Out Of Box Mac Compatibility”

curve8520-mac

I just got a great tip via email, that even I didn’t notice. If you head over to RIM’s product page for the newly announced BlackBerry Curve 8520 you’ll notice something quite interesting. It says that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 will support Mac computers out of the box. This means that anyone (such as myself) who was been desperately waiting for RIM to release BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac has a smile on their face. If all goes as planned T-Mobile USA should be launching the 8520 around August 5th, meaning we should be able to download DTM for Mac shortly after that. Keep chekcing in for more details when we get ‘em.

Missing Sync now supports BlackBerry Storm and Bold

Mac OS X users always seem to get screwed. As you know RIM doesn’t officially have a version of their own Desktop Manager software just yet. The Missing Sync, which is known for their OS X and BlackBerry syncing has just released a new version to support the BlackBerry Bold and Storm. The software itself costs $39.95 USD and is available in volume purchases as well.

Mac users to get Desktop Manager next year?

Myself I’ve been a long time Mac user, but have always done my backups on a PC. Finally it appears that RIM might actually be doing something to help out Mac users. A source has reported to CIO.com that RIM is working on plans to either develop a Mac verison of their Desktop Manager software or work with third party companies to provide the same features as a PC would have. The new software is expected to be seen sometime during the first half of 2009.

I have to say that if this is true I really hope RIM brings out their own version of DTM as I’m sick of dual-booting my Mac just to do backups and OS upgrades.
