Get Your BlackBerry buzzd, Free App Tells You Where The Happening Spots Are

buzzdid

There’s a new beta application available for the BlackBerry. It’s called buzzd. Now you might be wondering what all the buzz is about, so let me share with you. Before the application for the BlackBerry, it was only accessible online on it’s website or from a mobile browser. The program lets you know what events and concerts (50,000 events a month from Canada, the UK and US) are happening in the location you seek, and where to find food and drinks. The information comes from trusted sources and real time reviews from the buzzd community. It is the first application from the BlackBerry AppWorld to use Cell ID, which can be faster than GPS and it can be used in buildings, including clubs. This app is a direct result of the BlackBerry Partners Fund, and has the potential to be the leading location finder from BlackBerry AppWorld.

So let me tell you what makes it unique. The Cell ID is impressive, and hopefully we will see more of this type of location finder in other apps because while GPS is blocked by some providers or there may not be any GPS signal, Cell ID will work as long as there’s reception because it works with the cell sites. It receives its listings from over 20 content providers such as Citysearch, Last.fm, ZAGAT, and Flavorpill among others. It has a smooth UI and integrates with Twitter so you can broadcast to your tweeps where you are and what you’re doing. All the content Buzzd provides is free, unlike ZAGAT that has one source and runs $20.00. You send invites and get your friends to join. You can post a buzz, which a text to your friends. You can add events to your BlackBerry Calendar, and it integrates with your maps to allow you to find directions and locate the destinations (1.5 million venues available throughout Canada, the UK and US). You can also share your pics and reviews with your buzzd community.

If you would like to download Buzzd to your BlackBerry and give it a try, you can go to the BlackBerry AppWorld or to the buzzd website. If you do it from the website you can register, use your Facebook to log in, and create an account and have the application texted to your phone. Install from the link texted and you’re good to go.

If you decide to get buzzd, please leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

The app works with OS 4.2 and higher, and is compatible with the BlackBerry smartphones with those OS including the Pearl, the Curve, the Bold, and the Storm.

Great news for Canadians waiting to get their hands on the BlackBerry Tour 9630. Visual confirmation that Bell will in fact be releasing the Tour 9630 has arrived. New screenshots of Bell’s inventory system shows the Tour 9630 including a possible no contract price of $599.95. Unfortuantly this still leaves no official release date for the device but with any luck we will see it launch within the next month or two. Keep checking for more updates when they arrive!

RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie Wants To Buy A Hockey Team And Move Them Too!

jim-balsillie-phoenix-coyotes

Here’s something to howl about if you’re a hockey fan. RIM Co-CEO wants to buy the Phoenix Coyotes. Before I go into details, let’s see how the offer came about. The ownership group of the Phoenix Coyotes had filed for bankruptcy protection May 5, 2009. The filing as noted by a news release also included was a proposed sale for $212.5 million by an organization organized by Co-CEO Jim Balsallie. The NHL was not aware of the bankruptcy court proceedings and since removed Jerry Moyes, who was in charge of them, from acting on the behalf of the team. The NHL has taken ownership of the team.

makitseven

Jim Balsallie has been trying to bring US hockey teams to Canada for the last 2 and 1/2 years. This includes the Nashville Predators and Pittsburghn Penguins. Both were dropped when the NHL denied the relocation of the teams. It’s no secret that he has a passion for hockey, he heads to a hockey rink once a week at 5:30 am to train and plays twice a week in a local old-timers league. He loves his hockey and sports, and no one will argue that. Balsillie has also started a public plea for help by coming up with a website called Make It Seven. The sale is with the condition of relocation to some undisclosed area in Southern Ontario.

coyoteshelp

The Phoenix Coyotes and their fans have not sat back quietly either. They have come up with a website for public support as well called Save The Coyotes, and even asking for fans and Arizonans  on Twitter to please show support and to help by purchasing a t-shirt called Keep It Six. They are hoping to find a new owner to outbid Mr. Balsillie and stay in Arizona.

A bankruptcy judge still has to accept the chapter 11 filing and the purchase offer. From that point any other bidders may bid for the team and try to outbid Mr. Balsillie. Now if the bankruptcy court decides they cannot force the team to move, then the deal will fall through. So ultimately the fate of the Coyotes rests in the hands of the courts and with the influence of the NHL. Whether or not they find a new owner to outbid Mr. Balsillie, we will see. If the Coyotes do relocate, they will be returning as they were once the Winnepeg Jets before coming to Arizona to become the Phoenix Coyotes. If Jim Balsillie succeeds, does anyone care to make a guess as to what name might await the Coyotes?

Our friends over at Mobile Syrup let us know that they got to spend some hands-on time a TELUS BlackBerry Storm. Here’s a blurb from the first part of their review “Overall, in our first review there is not much that we can say needs improving. The speed was good, accelerometer was responsive, music was loud (comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack), the pictures we good quality and the device as a whole was solid.”
