Hands-on photos of BlackBerry Bold

I know this is really late because Rogers’ Bold has been out for a while now but I had a chance to test one out for a few days. Because of the short time span I had with the device I didn’t write a review on it. I just took lots of pictures and tested out the browser and stuff. I will say though overall I was impressed with the design of the unit as it reminded me of my old BlackBerry 8800. I loved the leather back and the keyboard, which I found to be designed much like the 8800. Anyways here is a gallery of pictures: Read More

Orange dropping BlackBerry Bold, too many issues?

It is rumored that UK cell carrier Orange has dropped the BlackBerry Bold from their lineup due to quailty issues. Apparently there is a internal memo floating around stating that they will not continue to offer RIM’s Bold until RIM has fixed the known issues with it. Maybe they are getting a bouncing 3G signal as well? Cause as you may know AT&T still has not released the device in the United States due to extensive testing…

Safe mode hidden in BlackBerry Bold

Looks like you don’t have to wait for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (Javelin) to run safe mode on your BlackBerry. Apparently the newer version of OS 4.6 for the BlackBerry Bold will be featuring safe mode. What this means is if your running a third party application and it causes your BlackBerry OS to die you can boot it into safe mode and fix it (think Windows).

To activate safe mode:

1. Remove and reinsert the battery
2. Wait for the red LED light to go out when that happens HOLD the escape (back) key.
3. When dialog appears asking you to enter safe mode select yes

RIM says AT&T’s Bold still in testing…

A post popped up yesterday quoting RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis saying that AT&T is still internally testing their 3G BlackBerry Bold 9000 and that it should be ready later this year. Orginally the BlackBerry Bold was suppose to launch on AT&T back in May, however may delays due to issues with signal and battery delayed it. The Bold has made apparences all around the world including now in Canada.

“There’s great scrutiny, as you might know, on that network and a certain device. So I guess everyone wants to be sure on every last test,” said RIM’s co-CEO. So with any luck you guys in the United States should be able to pick up a Bold for at least Christmas (hopefully before).

Telus getting CDMA BlackBerry Bold?!?

Take this one with a grain of salt! But a rumor is floating around that Telus will be getting a CDMA BlackBerry Bold by the end of this year. Usually the folks at MobileSyrup are on point when they report this kind of stuff, however at this time we do not believe that RIM has any plans for a CDMA Bold this year. Maybe next year. Maybe not at all. At this time the only BlackBerry that Telus should be getting this year will be RIM’s first touch screen smartphone the BlackBerry Storm 9530.

Anyways its just a little rumor that was posted online and we thought we would share it with you…

Thanks Adam!

AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold delayed until November?

Honestly I really hope not, but the latest report in from a leaked AT&T document shows the BlackBerry Bold ETA is November now. Other news from AT&T on this report shows the new dark blue Curve 8320 will be launching on October 21st, Pink Pearl launches October 2nd, and the Burnt Orange model has be delayed until 2009.

I should point out as well that Boy Genius clearly says he is sticking firm to the October 2nd release date. So Keep checking back for the latest BlackBerry Bold in the United States updates…

Rogers to launch new Data Plans on Oct. 1st

As of October 1st Rogers Wireless will introduce new data plans to replace their crazy 6GB for $30 a month. A recent study by Rogers indicates that 95% of iPhone 3G users use less than 500MB of data every month. Becuase of this Rogers will introduce new data plans as follows:

$15 – 2MB
$25 – 500 MB
$30 – 1GB
$60 – 3GB
$80 – 8GB

A few interesting notes about these new packages: All new clients will receive 3 months of “Freedom of Data” allowing unlimited usage for the first three months to see which data plan they really need. Also all of these new plans include tethering, Clients will be notified by SMS when they have used all of their available data, Overages are now capped at $100/month so no one will get any crazy phone bills.

So we recommend that you pick up Rogers current $30 a month for 6GB on data with your new BlackBerry Bold!!
