The Fuel holster by Case-Mate allows you to charge your device while on the go, with the press of a button. The fuel holster features a 2300 mA lithium polymer battery pack which provides about 7 additional hours of talk time or 20 additional days beyond the Bold’s standard battery life. So what do I think of the Fuel case overall? Let’s read on…

Apparently the any devices running OS 5.0 will be able to get the update! It’s expected that many current devices including BlackBerry Bold, Curve 8900, Tour 9630, Storm 95xx, and maybe even Pearl Flip series will get access to OS 5.0 when its launched. Unfortunately we don’t really know when to expect OS 5.0 to come out… It’s been rumored to be launching near the end of Summer for most models. Until then enjoy some screen shots of the new messenger features: Read More

Review: Body Glove Silicone Case for BlackBerry Curve 83xx

bodyglovecase

I was looking for something that has a grip feel and has a stand, but also something I can clip on and it’s not too bulky. I’m terribly careful with my phone, but I’m always on the go, so I opted to review the Body Glove Silicone Case for the Curve.

There were a couple of reasons this product stands out. Body Glove is known for their scuba diving wear, swim wear, and also for their unique cases and skins. I really thought the  form fitting look of Body Glove was attractive, the clip a necessity so I could clip it to anything, and the stand. The case runs $19.95, and it’s available in the BlackBerry Sync Store. The features that are in the description are:

  • Strong, tear-resistant case
  • Slim and sleek
  • Soft, rubberized material
  • One piece design
  • Removable knob for sleek design
  • Adjustable kickstand built into clip
  • Kickstand allows for multiple viewing angles
  • To review the product, I evaluated it on my Curve 8330. I’ve always heard people referring to a Body Glove, but this is the first Body Glove case I have ever seen or used. I get my package and I’m excited. It’s very self explanitory. I open the package and I love the way the case for the phone feels. It’s silicone, but it’s flexible and feels very soft. The clip in the back can be removed, or the clip part can be removed off the back of the case, or the attachable clip can be clipped on. There’s the classic push button release on the clip. To apply the clip you slide it into the slot until it snaps, that easy. Hold the ends of the clip and pinch and the clip will open to be clipped onto your belt or whatever you clip your clips on. Turn the clip around and you have the kickstand. Unsnap the kickstand and there are four alternate degrees you can rest it.

So now I slide my phone into the silicone case, and it feels nice. It’s soft and all the ports, holes, and buttons are left open. The light of my 8330 is slightly covered but I can still see it. The screen and keys are completely open and typing on the keys is left unhindered.

Pros: The kickstand is nice since many people have the phone somewhere beside them and it’s viewable in this case. The case is lightweight and thin, not big and bulky, and it’s a material you can grip. The clip is nice, holds fast, and isn’t easy to come off. The clip can be rotated to stay in both sideways and right side up position. Just keep in mind this case is similar to a skin, it protects from nicks and scratches, and is not a heavy duty case. It allows easier use of the keypad that way as well. The instructions are easy to read and self explainitory. The case does everything the description says, it’s sleek, one piece aside of the attachable clip, and it is a strong silicone material. I pulled on it, moved it, took my phone out and slid back in. It held up very well and is very pliable. No loosening or slack in the case.

Cons: The screen is open, so I highly recommend a screen protector for the phone. The only color it comes in is black.

You can grab a Body Glove Silicone Case for $19.95 from the BlackBerry Sync Store >

Available for the following handsets: BlackBerry: 8300 (Curve), 8310 (Curve), 8320 (Curve), 8330 (Curve), and there is also a version for the Bold and the Storm.

Mini Review: OtterBox Impact Cases for BlackBerry Bold and Curve

    1938-2051

Editors Note: First off I’m just going to say sorry for the delay in the getting these reviews up, unfortunately they will be a little shorter than normal. We’ve been busy working on some new features for the site. Stay tuned!

I have always been one to swear by OtterBox’s Defender Cases for BlackBerry smartphones. No matter what you use your device for they always seem to come in handy. This time around I’m checking out OtterBox’s new Impact Cases, which are more of a skin like material. Last year OtterBox introduced the “Impact Series” for the Bold and iPhone and just recently for the Curve 8300 series. I decided to grab one for the Bold and Curve to check out and see how they compare to RIM’s OEM skins. First thing you will notice when taking it out of the package is that the Impact Case is much thicker than RIM’s BlackBerry Skins. You defiantly feel like you get more protection from the OtterBox Impact Case. I have written this mini review separated by paragraphs about each model to make it a little easier to follow.

rbb1-08300-20-c5otr7BlackBerry Curve 8300 Series Impact Case

OtterBox offers several different cases for the BlackBerry smartphones, however some people may not like the bulk of their more rugged Defender Series. The Impact Skin may be the way to go! It features a ergonomic design, which feels great in your hands. The case should protect from your average bumps and shocks cause from day to day use. This case keeps your device slim yet still accessible. It works great in your pocket or in most side BlackBerry cases. (See details at OtterBox.com)

    1938-2052BlackBerry Bold 9000 Impact Case

When the Bold Impact Case was introduced I was too stuck on my Defender Case to give it a shot. I was always worried about harming my beautiful Bold, however now that I’m using the Impact Case I love how slim and fitted it is. With the Impact Case you have access to the data ports, speakers and microphone. My only compliant about the case for this model is it seems to fit a little loose around the sides. Although they most likely have to be like that in order to put it on the device. So now the Impact Case is what I use from day to day. (Details in the BBSync Store)

    Overall

I’m impressed with the cases from OtterBox overall. They never seem to disappoint me. The real bonus is that they provide a skin protector and cleaning cloth right in the package! You really can’t got wrong for under $20 bucks. If either of these cases interest you check out the links below.

Software Alert: WhitePages Mobile Now Available For BlackBerry App World

    whitepagesreverse

We know ebony and ivory are a great match, so here’s another new app that might make life a little more easier. So let me begin by introducing WhitePages. Currently it is a free go to source for accurate information on over 200 million US adults. They have now taken their online site and made it accessible for your BlackBerry.

So let’s go over a few of the things the application is capable of. Let’s say you get an unknown caller that’s not in your phone book. We usually don’t answer these, however after the call we are able to bring up the phone list and use the option to search the WhitePages, and there it is! Reverse look up, with over 600 million mobile and unpublished numbers and works for both calls and texts.

    whitepagessearch

You can update existing contact information, and use the Send/Share option as well. There are over 40 million work listings as well, so you can find someone by where they work or businesses with the WhitePages. It’s extremely convenient, no memberships, no having to pay some look up site to find it for you for a few, it’s all right there.

Now the application is $6.99 for six months of use, but if you use google or directory assistance, this may well be worth it. Each call to directory assistance is $1.50 and that does not do reverse look up or look for people in a business. So for that alone is worth the investment.

Currently the only model supported is the BlackBerry Bold, but with other models to follow shortly.

If you are interested in the WhitePages, head on over to your BlackBerry App World and give it a shot. Let us know what you think.

App Update: Vlingo v3.0 Brings More Power To Your Voice

    vlingo-logo

Vlingo was introduced less than a year ago, and millions of users are using it and are familiar with it. Vlingo Corporation, maker of Vlingo, has now launched version 3.0. Vlingo is a program that already gives meaning to the power of speech, but now it’s even more. It currently gives users the ability to send and reply to emails and text messages, searching on the mobile web using various search cues, dial a contact, look up contacts, and launch certain applications in the phone by using the voice of the user. The program utilizes the side buttons so the user can press a button and speak. But that was 2.0, and with 3.0, it just got better.

Now with v3.0 users can use the enhanced text-to-speech read-back features so that now you can have confirmation of what was said, the ability to speak action requests giving new enhancement to voice command such as send, and support for wired headsets and many Bluetooth headsets.

It’s now available for many BlackBerry BES users, making it available to more users. The BlackBerry Storm also features a special version, which is optimized for the touch screen interface.

With Vlingo v3.0, the user’s voice now has the ability to:

    1. Send and reply to text messages with other users who also have Vlingo
    2. Web search
    3. Dial the phone
    4. Send a “note to self”
    5. Facebook and Twitter status updates
    6. Tell A Friend
    7. Optional read-back of the full text or email message that was spoken.
    8. Speak action requests such as “send” or “search”
    9. Launch native and third party applications

But that’s not all, there’s a paid version called Vlingo Plus, that also includes the ability to send and reply to text messages and emails to anyone for a one-time charge of $17.99. And rest assured, for those existing users of Vlingo v2.0, you can still continue to use it at no additional charge.

Vlingo is currently available for the BlackBerry: Bold, Storm, Pearl, Curve, and 88xx series.

US, Canadian, and UK users are able to download Vlingo v3.0 rights from BlackBerry App World.
