Is RIM working on a native Twitter App for BlackBerry?

twitter_logo

This isn’t the first I’ve heard this either, but Kevin over at CrackBerry is reporting that RIM could be working on a native Twitter app. The app would just be like the apps RIM created for Facebook, Myspace, Windows Live, etc. Apparently RIM’s Twitter app will be just like all the others and tie into your address book to integrate contacts. We have no official details on it, but we may see it soon. What do you think? Should RIM come out with their own Twitter app when there is so many great 3rd party ones out there?

Tips And Reminders For Newbies And The Beginners

Bricked

With the leak of the BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 and the files available on line, there’s been a few things that are important to stress and go over for some newbies and fresh BlackBerry owners. I’m going to lead by example and share my own experience to stress why some things are important.

OS

First of all, when you have your BlackBerry please remember that the OS is very important. You should know what version your OS on your phone is. Reason being that when there are released apps, they may be compatible with your OS but not the version. For instance, I had the Curve 8330. So when the BBM 5.0’s link was sent to me, I installed it and boom! Gone! All my contacts lost in the virtual world. I had a backup, last month’s backup. And no messenger. I had to reinstall the original OS version of my bbm through the BlackBerry Desktop Manager once more. So here’s why it didn’t work. I didn’t have the compatible OS version for the 5.0 messenger. They always list what OS version they are compatible with, and there’s that reason. So to find out your OS version, go to Options/About. The third line when you click on About is your OS version. Please keep this in mind when you download an app. If the app states a different OS version, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT, or do so knowing that it may have adverse affects, from a lost app to a brick phone. And I’ve had the question: “What about the BBM 5.0 for my phone?” And I answer with “Don’t do it, it’s not compatible for your version”. And a day or two later I hear “My messenger disappeared. I turned it on and it was like that. I didn’t do anything.” Yes, I know exactly what you did, been there done that. If you follow the general guidelines and know your phone, then things will be much easier. Don’t worry, if the app isn’t ready for your OS yet, you have two options. One, wait for the app to be available for your phone. Or you can update your OS to one that’s compatible for your phone and the app, which leads me to the next section.

When installing an OS that is leaked and not from your vendor, be sure to follow instructions carefully and remember, doing it on your own means you are taking your own risk. Again, knowing what you’re doing or following instructions is very important. Being careful and watching what you do will keep your phone happy and not fubar. But even more to keep in mind, to keep you happy with the peace of mind that your phone isn’t bricked and can work. Or that you don’t lose an app that is important to you. Upgrading a leaked or borrowed OS is not for those who don’t have the instructions or someone to guide them, or if you aren’t that tech savvy.

For any others who would care to share their stories, please do. And newbies and the daring, please keep these guidelines in mind. Most tech issues are because of simple things I’ve listed. We’re not just here to share exciting news, we’re here to help make your BlackBerry experiences better and make it easier for you, and we’re all here to learn from another, and to guide each other.

New Simple Call Back Reminder App, LaterDude

laterdude

FabianMH has brought a new app to the BlackBerry apps available, LaterDude. He designed it to be very simple, very friendly, and does exactly as it says…reminds you to call that friend, coworker, any one you need to contact later.nI know many of us take a call or say, “Can I call you later?” only to forget.

This app allows you to fully control who you call back from the call log or the messages app. You choose an entry, the Menu key, and from there it’s “Remind Me Later”. It will then bring a pop up asking you when you would like to be notified. It’ll make a calendar entry for you. Double check by going into  the Calendar and options.

I think this app is nice for two reasons. One, it’s FREE, and two, there are so many of us who say I’ll call back later, and just forget. So it’s a great reminder for the person who’s on the go or very forgetful. Fabian makes some really great apps and if you’d like to keep up on the latest apps, follow him on Twitter. His Twitter name is @FabianMH and his website is MobileUtil. If you’re interested in the app LaterDude, I would encourage you to try it. Fabian has several apps he’s created and they’re all very creative and work great. You’ll be familiar with several of them.

You can download a free copy of LaterDude here at MobileUtil >

The New BlackBerry Messenger Looks Sexy and Brings Tons of Hot Features!!

new messegner on onyx

Who else but Boy Genius got his hands-on what looks to be the new BlackBerry Messenger application. Not only that but BG got his hands-on the hot and sexy BlackBerry Onyx to demo it out. This is the first we’ve seen of the new messenger client which has tons of hot new features. Not only does the new Messenger have a new look but it supports GPS integration similar to Google Latitude to notify you when friends are close, avatar icons, and home screen icons. Here’s a complete list of the new features:

  • Avatar support — set your own avatar using the Camera or saved photo on your device (this is displayed locally as well as shown next to your Messenger name on your friend’s buddy list)
  • GPS location integration — you can now set permissions so friends can always see your location, have to request it each time, or never can see it
  • Proximity sensor — we’re guessing this will let you know if you’re within a certain distance of friends (pending, of course, you’re both set to share locations freely with each other)
  • Set conversation subjects — this will allow you to organize your convos on the main Messenger screen and label them with subjects to keep track of all your conversations
  • Homescreen support — you can pin/sticky actual Messenger contacts directly to the homescreen for easy access!

Big props to Boy Genius for getting his hands on this and the Onyx!
