Wikitude is one of my all time favorite apps for my BlackBerry device. With it I can find people and places around that I wouldn’t notice but can find through Augmented Reality. I especially use it for cafes, tweets, and Youtube. I missed posting two updates, so I’ll post the changelog I’ve missed.

One more thing about Wikitude I didn’t mention in the beginning is that it’s FREE! If you haven’t checked out Wikitude yet, keep reading.

I’ve included this video that shows how to use the Wikitude World Browser on the BlackBerry.

Changelog for v6.5 and v6.5.1

Fix: integrated workaround to avoid BBM connection problems resulting in “BBM connection pending” state.

Improved: faster switching between BBM contacts and normal POIs in list/map/cam

Here’s the description of Wikitude from App World:

Wikitude World Browser finds cool people, places and things and allows you to discover your surroundings in a completely new way. Provided that your BlackBerry has a digital compass built in (most OS7 devices), you can simply hold up your smartphone and explore what’s around you in Augmented Reality (AR). Identify places, sights and even your BBM friends through your camera’s field of vision – a truly engaging and immersive experience. Don’t worry should you not have a digital compass in your BlackBerry (all OS6 devices). You can still explore places, things and people around you on a map and list view. As a BBM connected app Wikitude can locate your friends and other BBM users, of course only if they share their location. A great way to meet other BBM users and make new friends. Wikitude has been voted “The most addictive social app using BBM”.

Note: Wikitude automatically checks your device on whether you have a digital compass built in or not. With a compass you will be AR enabled, but not to worry if you do not have one, Wikitude works great in map view as well ;-)

Search through lots of exciting content and points of interest from Wikipedia, Youtube, Twitter, Flickr, Starbucks and thousands more. Use Wikitude to browse through what’s around you or to specifically search for places you are interested in. Craving sushi? Just type “sushi” into Wikitude’s search box, hold up your phone and see all the sushi restaurants around you. Looking for special offers near your home or nearest shopping centre? Simply view all the augmented reality mobile coupons to get up to 50% off !

Here’s what’s new:

With the all new Wikitude myWorld feature you can create your very own Augmented Reality World. The “Create Place” tool allows you to mark the location of your favorite Mexican restaurant or any other location that is special to you, perhaps your favorite store or the amazing hotel you discovered in Italy last summer. Your World can be shared with your friends on Facebook, meaning you see their favorite Places, and they see yours. Also check out Wikitude myWorld on facebook.com Try it now!

Here are the features in their entirety:

Create your very own AR World and share it with your friends, meaning you see their favorite Places, and they see yours

Find events, tweets, Wikipedia articles, ATMs, restaurants, user reviews and much more around you

Interact with your BBM contacts and discover new BBM users around you like you have never done before.

Experience places near you in augmented reality or show them on a map or list view

Browse more than 150 million places and interactive content from more than 2,500 content providers or so called “Worlds”

Explore and identify places and objects around you

Search for specific places, for example “thai restaurant”

Find mobile coupons and discounts for stores and shops near you

It’s really a fun app that has so many opportunities and capabilities as we also saw for future BlackBerry 10 devices from BlackBerry 10 Jam. It was a friend of mine who introduced me to Wikitude by Wikitude GmbH and I have really adored it ever since, especially with knowing that the Wikitude team is great with answering questions and concerns. You’ll love it. If you haven’t checked out Wikitude, do so now. It’s free and fun, what more could you ask?

NodeBeat by AffinityBlue, is another music app that is synthesizer based and works as though created by the Greek Muse, Euterpe herself. It’s fun, creative, colorful and is very easy to use for all ages. For the price associated with the app, I know you’ll find it a steal.

First off, I need to be honest, I never heard of NodeBeat until they announced it for the BlackBerry PlayBook. It’s a very neat app no matter your age or musical talent. Show this one to your children and you may never see your BlackBerry PlayBook again, or at least until it needs to be charged again.

Here’s the video of NodeBeat playing on the BlackBerry PlayBook:

Here’s the description from BlackBerry App World:

Make music with NodeBeat, the intuitive and fun visual music app for all ages. Whether you’re 2 or 92, NodeBeat will make you sound like a pro. Create your own music in a matter of minutes or listen to NodeBeat generate its own. Easily save and record your creations to share with your friends. Discover your musical genius with NodeBeat!

(From the NodeBeat website) How does it work?

Generators and Notes make up the two types of nodes. Generators pulse and play Notes within proximity. A Note is played in sequence, based on the distance it is from its connected Generator. Pause nodes to create your own beats or let them roam free to have them generate their own.NodeBeat is Created by Seth Sandler, Justin Windle, and Laurence Muller.

General Features:

Friendly, Intuitive and Easy to Use

Record and Save Creations

Drum and Octave Generators

Preset Layouts to Help Get You Started

Sleep Timer for Falling Asleep to NodeBeat

Audio and Rhythm Features:

20 Musical Scales

All 12 Musical Keys Signatures

7 Octave Range

Multitouch Background Keyboard/Piano

Audio Waveform Adjustment (Sine, Triangle, Sawtooth, Square)

Creative Sound Sculpting (Echo, Attack, Decay, Release)

Adjustable Tempo (BPM) and Note Beat

You can find other affinityblue NodeBeat videos at their YouTube channel here

I really love this app and how easy it is to use right from the start, the price makes it an astounding find. Check it out and let us know what you think of it. It’s soothing, fun, bright and soft enough that even a toddler will love it.

I know this isn’t news, but it is advertising and humor. Do you remember Vodafone’s BlackBerry Boys and their catchy jingle of “We’re the BlackBerry Boys”? They’re back with a new song in which they lament the younger generation using BlackBerry. It’s humorous and it’s catchy. Check it out…

Here’s the original Vodafone BlackBerry Boys commercial…

The BlackBerry Boys also have their own Facebook Page, so if you like them, click on the link so you can keep up on the news. I love their description:

“This is the official page of Vodafone’s BlackBerry Boys. It is a club for those who love the BlackBerry boys, irrespective of whether they own a BlackBerry or just hope to own one “

There’s one other video I had to share with you. It’s a BlackBerry video in Spanish which is really fun and catchy too. This is BlackBerry Boys Unefon, which is the same sort of catchy tune of the original BlackBerry Boys but is different wording in Spanish.

The white colored BlackBerry Bold 9900 has not been officially announced by RIM as of yet. That hasn’t stopped Vodafone UK from showing it off on video. If you remember Vodafone also showed off the first Bold 9900 before it was publicly available back in June. Vodafone hasn’t announced when it will be available for purchase, but we expect to see it hit the UK as well Canada (and hopefully the United States) within the next few months. Check out the hands-on video below…

The BlackBerry Torch 9860 is still yet to be announced by RIM, and really we should expect an announcement any day now. But if you’re looking to get your fix of this massive touch screen BlackBerry then check this out. The video above shows the new Torch’s on screen keyboard, which was updated with the new BlackBerry 7 OS found on the device. As you can see from the video the new Torch 9860 looks pretty responsive. I can’t wait to get my hands on one and see if RIM actually mastered touch screens yet. Hopefully just a few weeks left until we see the official announcement and release. Stay tuned!

Since the BlackBerry PlayBook launched one week ago today, I’ve been wondering when or if RIM would start airing any commercials aimed at the PlayBook. Honestly I would have thought we would see commercials for RIM’s first tablet months ago, but hey what do I know. RIM’s first commercial has just been uploaded to Youtube and we really hope this is just the beginning. RIM changed up their usual jingle for a more classic song Brass in Pocket by The Pretenders. Sometime very different for RIM indeed. Check out the commercial and let us know what you think. Will it help?

Since the BlackBerry PlayBook was announced we’ve been very curious to know how RIM plans to take advantage of the dual HD cameras. At first we thought it might just be for Skype or Google Talk, but we now have confirmation the PlayBook will have a native BBM Video app. As you can see in this video posted by Rogers Business Blog. While RIM hasn’t said anything about this app yet, we really hope it will be ready to go on April 19th!

You will also know the dedicated Facebook and Twitter icons… I wonder if those will be native apps or web launchers? Check out the full video below…

Our friends at IntoMobile have taken look at the PlayBook’s upcoming 7digital Music Store and the BlackBerry Podcast App. They’ve recorded a HD video that really shows the high resolution details of the apps. From what we see, we like! The software on the PlayBook in this demo appears to be pretty polished and we would guess pretty close the gold master release, which would mean the version that it’ll ship with. The RIM rep also confirmed that the PlayBook will be able to transfer media via the same BlackBerry Desktop Software that you use with your BlackBerry smartphone. Enjoy the video!
