Sprint launches BlackBerry 8830 World Edition

Sprint BlackBerry 8830

Sprint have officially launched the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. It's now available in stores for a cool $199 with two year contract. One of the best parts about Sprint's 8830 is that it features an unlocked SIM card slot meaning while traveling overseas you can simply pop in a local sim avoiding Sprint's heavy international roaming fees. Another note about their version of the 8830 is it's sporting a Qualcomm processor logo right on the back of the device…

Is Sprint’s BlackBerry 8830 slightly delayed?

Sprint BlackBerry 8830 World Edition

It seems like the latest rumors floating around over at BGR is that the BlackBerry 8830 will be slightly delayed until mid-July. While no one can confirm why it’s simply just a rumor. Some are saying that the delayed issues could be because of the Verizon launch issues or maybe even RIM is having stock issues.(Via BlackBerryCool)

at&t’s BlackBerry 8800 vs. 8830 comparison sheet

BlackBerry 8800 vs 8830 by AT&T

Boy Genius has posted on his site an internal document from at&t comparing both the GSM BlackBerry 8800 and it’s CDMA cousin the 8830 (soon to offered by Verizon and Sprint). This sheet compares the two side by side and also very openly admits that AT&T will in fact be seeing a 8820 with Wi-Fi in Q3 of 2007.

So whats the big differences you ask? The BlackBerry 8800 will feature a more powerful processor 312MHz processor where as the 8830 will have a 225 MHz processor, They claim the 8830 doesn’t have GPS in it however we believe it will, The 8800 will have PTT (push to talk) and the 8830 won’t, other than that talk and stand by time (seems the 8800 wins, yet again). However the 8830 does provide much faster data with EV-DO. Click on the picture to see the full table.

RIP BlackBerry 7520 from Nextel

BlackBerry 7520

Just as Sprint announces the summer release of the new BlackBerry 8830, the good ole’ classic 7520 iDen BlackBerry is being discontinued in May as confirmed by Boy Genius. What will that leave the Nextel part of Sprint for BlackBerries… the 7100i? Will anything be coming to replace it? Rumors are always circling of a new iDen BlackBerry however nothing confirmed at this time (could you imagine a Nextel Pearl?) hmmm.
