Beyond160 v 1.0, Brings CDMA devices more than 160 letters per text!

storm-bey160-screenshot_1

GSM carriers never have an issue allowing a BlackBerry to send long texts. If it’s long, it will automatically break it into 160 character chunks. The term for this is Extended/Multipart SMS. It might break it into six messages, but you only pay for one. This is not supported on CDMA BlackBerry models such as the BlackBerry Storm, Curve 8330, etc. So this includes: Alltel, Bell, Sprint, Telus, and Verizon Wireless.

For those of us who love long texts but have a CDMA carrier, Cannon Soft has announced their solution for you. It is called Beyond160, v1.0.0. The application will automatically break up the texts into 160 character messages, and it will send them in order through the normal sms outbox with delivery confirmation. The application does have a fourteen day trial period. Be aware that although GSM carriers will charge as one text, CDMA carriers will charge per message. This means if you do not have an unlimited text plan, and the message is broken into three messages, you will be charged for three messages. So if you find yourself typing long messages, trying them to shorten them, don’t fret, just download Beyond160 today.

Beyond160 v1.0.0, by Cannon Soft can be downloaded from here.

BlackBerry Floats Higher Than Apple, As RIM’s BlackBerry Curve Beats Out Apple’s iPhone

    vzw-curve

The NPD Group, a leader in wireless industry market research, released their “Smartphone Market Update” report which is based on US Consumer sales of smartphones. And once again, RIM proves to be the leader. The NPD Group attributed the rise to a “buy-one-get-one” sale by Verizon Wireless, which helped RIM’s numbers increase by fifteen percent to an almost fifty percent of the smartphone market in this first quarter, as Apple’s iPhone and Palm sales decreased each by ten percent. Another factor is that the BlackBerry Curve is sold by more than one carrier. And the numbers prove that while there are newer BlackBerry smartphones, and even more stylish looking Curve family members, the 83xx series is still the beloved and preferred BlackBerry Curve.

The top-ten best-selling smartphones for this first quarter are:

    1. RIM BlackBerry Curve (all 83XX models)
    2. Apple iPhone 3G (all models)
    3. RIM BlackBerry Storm
    4. RIM BlackBerry Pearl (all models, except flip)
    5. T-Mobile G1

The Curve is number one, with the  Storm and Pearl taking the #3 and #4 slot.  Back in the first quarter of 2008, smartphones were 17% of handset sales in comparison to the first quarter of 2009 in which the smartphone sales are now 23%. Between Business and the Consumer markets, it has truly been a great quarter for RIM.

Survey Says….RIM Leads The US Business Industry

    business

The iPhone’s Develeloper’s Journal just posted the findings of a Report on their site. The Strategy Analytics Wireless Enterprise Strategy Service Report is available and the results are in. RIM is leading in the business industry with the smart phone market share at 37% in all sizes of US businesses, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform is following behind in second with 26%. According to the survey, RIM customers were less willing to change their handset than other users on other platforms.

Some of the companies surveyed were Verizon and AT&T who carry most of the business subscriptions, AT&T are just a bit ahead in large enterprises (companies with 1000+), and Verizon showed deeper numbers along small companies (under 100). Employees of large enterprises showed to be the most loyal BlackBerry users. In the phones surveyed they also included Symbian, Google Android, and Apple’s iPhone, but not one of those phones were in serious running for the competition of US Business use.
