As a Mac user I never was happy with the options for syncing my BlackBerry and Mac together. I always wanted RIM just to design a Desktop Manager like they have for Windows for Mac. Well I went over to the BlackBerry site today to discover that a new version of Pocket Mac (4.1.25) was released on August 14th. This new version brings great new features like iTunes syncing and support for newer BlackBerry smartphones.
Electric Pocket is introducing PhoneFace, a new application for BlackBerry which creates on touch speed dials for any of your contacts. Plus PhoneFace will sync with Facebook to scan through your friends pictures for one touch access to them. You can pick up a free 7 day trial from PhoneFace.com or purchase it for $9.95.
Key Features:
Get fast access to the people you call most often.
Pick full color, full screen pictures from your BlackBerry or storage card.
Connect to Facebook to find the best pictures of your friends.
Take photos with your BlackBerry camera.
Pick from included images for home, office, sweethearts and more.
Flick to the friend you want to call with your trackball.

Press Release:
Wye Valley UK, 14 August, 2008 –– Electric Pocket today unveils PhoneFace, a speed dial application for BlackBerry smartphones that launches phone calls, text messages and emails with the simple click on the photos of a users’ most commonly dialed contacts. The program shows full-screen photos of a user’s friends to offer a fun and easy way to locate the right contact to call. PhoneFace even retrieves the most recent pictures of contacts from Facebook.
Rather than forcing users to scroll through hundreds of contacts in the Address Book of their BlackBerry, PhoneFace adds a new twist to “speed dialing” by enabling them to flick through photos for their most commonly called contacts with their trackball and quickly select the person they wish to call.
PhoneFace users can select any picture files for their contacts – whether they are stored on their BlackBerry or storage card – and for the millions of Facebook users around the world, Electric Pocket has added the ability to locate and update the pictures of PhoneFace contacts with their most recent pictures posted on Facebook profiles. This Facebook integration gives users a ready source of excellent photographs for their contacts – and uniquely, the speed-dial picture becomes a photograph chosen by the contact themselves.
“PhoneFace is a light and breezy speed-dialer aimed at helping anyone reach out to their friends and family more quickly with their BlackBerry smartphones,” said Iain Barclay, Electric Pocket’s co-founder and Chief Product Officer. “It’s so much easier to look for a familiar face than sort through hundreds of names in a directory.”
Finally CDMA Curve and Pearl users can be happy! An official release of OS 4.5 has launched on MTS Mobility in Canada. The version available is 4.5.0.66 4.5.0.56 and I’ve had it loaded on my 8330 for a few days now and it works perfect! This OS can be used on ANY 8130 or 8330 as long as you remove the vendor.xml file found under: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\.
So I know I’m not the first person to think about this but I change my BlackBerry about every 3-6 months. I also have come to get a lot of contacts on my BB Messenger. The biggest pain about changing BlackBerries is that everytime I do a backup/restore or switch device wizard my BB messenger contacts get all messed up.
Wouldn’t it be so much better if RIM designed BlackBerry Messenger to auto-sign into an account when your device is turned on, similar to RIM’s MSN, AIM, Yahoo!, or Google Talk applications. One PIN for life would be amazing!! Anyways its very rare I write little blurps like these on the site but I just think it would be such a great idea.
Big props to Pinstack for this one. A member has posted a very detailed list of the latest BlackBerry OS downloads available from RIM. The list only contains the latest BlackBerry software OS by carrier for example BlackBerry 8830’s latest OS is 4.2.2.196 and is available from Alltel, Bell, Sprint, Verizon and others. Included in this list is the latest OS 4.5 links as well from RIM. You can also find the software listed by carrier here.
Ever seen something so funny that you wish you snap a picture of it without anyone knowing? Well I was browsing the forums over at Pinstack and came across this. Its now possible to kill the shutter sound with an application called Peek A Boo from BerryCoder. One of the best parts about this software is its free! It will work with any camera packing BlackBerry with OS 4.2 or higher (except it may not be compatible with 8×30 CDMA devices or Curve 8320). To use the software all you have to do is set Peek A Boo to one of your devices convenience keys.
If you have recently installed RIM’s new operating system version 4.5 on your BlackBerry, then its time to customize it! Our good friends over at eVeek have designed three new hot themes for you. What’s the best part about these themes? They are free!
