BlackBerry Onyx 9020 to sport Optical Trackpad!

onyxtrackpad

So this week Kevin from CrackBerry has confirmed that the BlackBerry Onyx (see above on left) will be modeled “9020″ upon its release. In case you forget the Onyx (9020) is a 3G BlackBerry featuring GSM/EDGE/UMTS, with a 480×360 high resolution display, 256MB of on-board memory, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, GPS and Wi-Fi. Anyway Kevin has confirmed that the BlackBerry 9020 will actually feature an Optical trackpad like the BlackBerry Gemini 8520 (seen on right). Final production models of the Onyx will in fact sport this new trackpad, rather than trackball like we’ve seen on prototype models. Anyway that’s just a tad bit of Onyx news for now. Stay tuned for more when it arrives…

The Hot New BlackBerry Messenger will be standard on all OS 5.0 devices!

bbm1

This new BlackBerry messenger application has got me drooling! The folks over at BGR have gotten their hands on an even newer build of OS 5.0 for the Curve 8900. Apparently the any devices running OS 5.0 will be able to get the update! It’s expected that many current devices including BlackBerry Bold, Curve 8900, Tour 9630, Storm 95xx, and maybe even Pearl Flip series will get access to OS 5.0 when its launched. Unfortunately we don’t really know when to expect OS 5.0 to come out… It’s been rumored to be launching near the end of Summer for most models. Until then enjoy some screen shots of the new messenger features: Read More

launcdate

We just received a tip from HowardForums member RileyFreeman who seems to come across an internal Telus presentation. Apparently the BlackBerry Tour 9630 will be launching on Telus July 15th. If this presentation is right then Telus will be launching the 9630 for $249 with 3-year contract, $649 with no contract (OUCH!). Unfortunately if this is true then we will have just under one month until launch. Keep checking in we’re trying to confirm this more…

SureType coming to Full QWERTY BlackBerry smartphones in OS 5.0?

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Something interesting was found in the latest leak of OS 5.0 for the BlackBerry Bold. OS version 5.0.0.110 seems to be packing an interesting feature. It appears RIM might be planning to put their popular SureType predictive text system into their full QWERTY BlackBerry models such as Bold, and possibly even the Tour? Previously SureType was only found on the Pearl family and the Storm. RIM’s SureType system basically allows you to press less keys to highlight you most commonly used words. Check out the full video to understand…

T-Mobile branded BlackBerry Curve 8520 aka Gemini Spotted in Wild!

branded-tmo-bb-gemini8520

Hmm look what has been caught in the wild! It’s an unreleased T-Mobile branded BlackBerry Curve 8520. The 8520 is also known as the Gemini and has been spotted many times before. From what we know the 8520 will be part of the low end BlackBerry family, possibly to replace the existing 8300 series. It’s been rumored to be coming on to T-Mobile in the way of Prepaid service, however nothing has been confirmed yet. This may be a low end berry but it does like slick. It features a 2.0 megapixel camera with no flash and only GSM with EDGE data, Wi-Fi, dedicated music keys on the top and RIM’s new Optical Trackpad for navigation. Not ETA on when the device will launch, although it’s thought to be launching  within the next few months.

The New BlackBerry Messenger Looks Sexy and Brings Tons of Hot Features!!

new messegner on onyx

Who else but Boy Genius got his hands-on what looks to be the new BlackBerry Messenger application. Not only that but BG got his hands-on the hot and sexy BlackBerry Onyx to demo it out. This is the first we’ve seen of the new messenger client which has tons of hot new features. Not only does the new Messenger have a new look but it supports GPS integration similar to Google Latitude to notify you when friends are close, avatar icons, and home screen icons. Here’s a complete list of the new features:

  • Avatar support — set your own avatar using the Camera or saved photo on your device (this is displayed locally as well as shown next to your Messenger name on your friend’s buddy list)
  • GPS location integration — you can now set permissions so friends can always see your location, have to request it each time, or never can see it
  • Proximity sensor — we’re guessing this will let you know if you’re within a certain distance of friends (pending, of course, you’re both set to share locations freely with each other)
  • Set conversation subjects — this will allow you to organize your convos on the main Messenger screen and label them with subjects to keep track of all your conversations
  • Homescreen support — you can pin/sticky actual Messenger contacts directly to the homescreen for easy access!

Big props to Boy Genius for getting his hands on this and the Onyx!
