President Obama To Be Reunited With His Improved BlackBerry

obama-bb

We remember the good fight President Obama put up for his beloved BlackBerry. He has made the BlackBerry nation proud! A BlackBerry is so addicting that even the President of the United States can’t give it up. Well shortly after his inauguration he was forced to give up his unsecured BlackBerry. He has been having to use a BlackBerry with a NSA-secured device known as Sectera Edge, made by General Dynamics Corp. It must be plugged into his BlackBerry making the BlackBerry more to keep track of.

But hope is not lost as the top-secret high-security BlackBerry 8830 is in the last stages of development by the National Security Agency and they will be making sure that the encryption meets all standards, especially federal standards. The President may hopefully have his BlackBerry in the next few months. He will be able to securely send texts, emails, phone calls, and also likely to be supplied with the same Blackberry smart phones will be his top aides and his wife and First Lady, Michelle Obama. A company known as The Genesis Key, Inc will be using their software they developed called SecureVoice, which will protect information from hackers, eavesdroppers, and spies alike. The SecureVoice applications are designed for the government, military, military intelligence, and security agencies. For more information on The Genesis Key, click here.

I would have to say in President Obama’s case his determination is about to pay off proving good things really do come to those who wait.

Update Alert: Facebook Steps Up Again

blackberry-mobile

It seems like just yesterday we brought you news of Facebook’s new update, v1.5.0.31. The Previous update did so much. It integrated with the phone, allowing your contacts from your Blackberry Contacts to by synced with those in Facebook. If your contact did not have a picture, they are given their Facebook picture. It not only shows the pic with the F in the bottom right corner, but it also shows their Facebook name as well. It has integrated birthdays with the Blackberry Calendar. It made it so much easier and intergrated that Facebook became a new experience on the Blackberry. But they didn’t stop there.

Well, as with any update, nothing is ever perfect. RIM has been listening to the complaints and two important issues are addressed with the new update RIM releases tonight. One is the Default Calendar. Second a phone number requested when manually linking contacts. Now you can be prompted. Announcing latest version v1.5.0.32. The new update looks just as good as the last one, only difference is that the issues have been addressed and resolved. Please go download it and let us know what you think.

Software Update Alert: ÜberTwitter Keeps Getting Better

uberfresh

ÜberTwitter recently updated, which I encourage you to update if you haven’t yet, and by all means please try it if you haven’t. I downloaded it and tried it when it first came out, but I noticed I had a few errors, but with the update at hand everything is running smooth and like a charm. In case you don’t know what ÜberTwitter is, it is an application that is considered a Twitter client for mobile phones, their first is for BlackBerry devices. It includes many features such as uploading pictures, integrating Google Talk, updating your location where you tweeted from based on cell phone towers, sending videos, and of course one of my favorite abilities, seeing your nearby tweeps.

It has gone from beta testing 1 to getting ready for beta 2 release. I’m excited for what’s in store. So let me go over some of the great fixes and updates that have arrived for this application:

Sound/Vib notifications

Battery usage trimmed significantly

Manual and longer refresh

Increase name screen field size on the options screen

Increase the GTalk user field size on the options screen.

Add Direct Messages to and Direct Messages From timelines

Add ‘Follow’ to context menu when clicking on @screenname

Fixed the bug where fonts were not resetting on change.

There are more they are currently working on, but so far I have not received anymore errors, and I’m quite impressed with this service so far. I do have to wonder however, how this application will compare to the TweetGenius. I have TwitterBerry and SocialScope, but I have not had the invite from TweetGenius as of yet. So far the ÜberTwitter has been quick, and offers quite the few options. The icon is the Ü with the Twitter bird sitting inside. When there are unread tweets, the dots turn red.

If you are interested in trying a new twitter client other than the current one you may be using, or if you have ÜberTwitter or tried it and was frustrated, please come back and try it again. I am sure you will be very impressed and find the client extremely useful. You can download the ÜberTwitter ota from your BlackBerry here. Download ÜberTwitter and You’ll be rocking!

Happy Earth Day! Recycling Your Phone!

blackberry Trade Up

Happy Earth Day to all our readers. So to commemorate the day, I would like to go over how to recycle your phone. So you’ve either decided to get your first BlackBerry or you have a BlackBerry and would like a newer model, this is how you do it. You can either donate your BlackBerry, sell it on eBay, or there’s yet another option. Try the BlackBerry Trade Up Program. Yes, there is a BlackBerry trade up program available through the BlackBerry website, so let me introduce you to it.

Flipswap, Inc manages the BlackBerry Trade Up Program. This organization is independently owned and operated. It is dedicated to being environmentally friendly by being responsible and reusing and recycling cell phones.  So when you’re ready, there are a few things you should know.

First, make sure you give a clear description of the phone or phones. And yes, you can trade in as many as you’d like for a check…or a check for charity. It is your responsibilty to make sure the data is wiped from the BlackBerry, and any non BlackBerry phone. Also make sure there are no locks on the phone and that the password is set to 0000. You must purchase a BlackBerry in order to receive your trade in credit or Promotional Bonus Amount. You must have proof of purchase of a BlackBerry smart phone within thirty days of the trade in online. The phone has to be purchased new from an Authorized BlackBerry dealer. You will need to send in your proof of purchase in order for the trade in to complete, as well as the box, and the phone. They will pay for shipping, and if the phone traded in is too old or does not carry value, the phone will be recycled and a tree planted through the releaf project initiated either in Louisiana or Nicaragua.

The process is in four steps:

1. Get an instant quote for the trade in device or devices.

2. Select and Purchase a new BlackBerry Smart phone.

3. Return your old phone(s) in their box(es) and your proof of purchase from the new BlackBerry phone.

4. Receive your check in the mail in a few weeks.

To find the BlackBerry Trade Up Program, you can find it here.

Software Update Alert: Hit The Deck With FitDeck Mobile!

fitdeck-mobile

I was really excited about the FitDeck Mobile and my review on this application.  Well a big thank you goes out to Jason Ryer, from mobileXware, who just notified me to the fact that there is a new version available for download. The older version installed as NexFit, the newer version installs as FitDeck BODYWEIGHT. The new version is 1.6.7. I downloaded and tested this on my BlackBerry 8330 Curve, and while mobileXare is working on making sure the newer version is available for download through Mobihand, if you are interested in the application or have it and would like the newer version, you can find it here: http://www.fitdeckmobile.com/fitdeck.jad

This program is so nice to have, gives you another reason to hold your BlackBerry even more dear, and make it your personal instructor. I really like this program and had fun with the exercises as they range across three levels of intensity beginning with beginners.

Just to go over what the application is and what it does, FitDeck mobile was created by Navy Seal instructor and ACE certified trainer Phil Black. He had invented a program using the exercises used in the Navy which were using your own body and strength to tone and build your own body. He had the exercises placed on cards, which were the FitDeck of cards. The program has become available as the deck of cards for BlackBerry. It’s nice to be able to have an exercise program where no equipment is necessary, you move at your own pace, you decide how long and how many. It’s easy, simple, and fun to use. There are fifty cards in the deck with instructions as well. For my original review in it’s entirety, please click here: [via: blackberrysync.com]

It is compatible with the following operating systems:
   4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7

It is compatible with the following BlackBerry: 7210, 7230, 7250, 7270, 7280, 7290, 7510, 7520, 7730, 7750, 7780, 8100 (Pearl), 8110 (Pearl), 8120 (Pearl), 8130 (Pearl), 8220 (Pearl Flip), 8300 (Curve), 8310 (Curve), 8320 (Curve), 8330 (Curve), 8350i (Curve), 8700c, 8700f, 8700g, 8700r, 8700v, 8703e, 8705g, 8707g, 8707h, 8707v, 8800, 8820, 8830, 8900 (Curve), 9000 (Bold), Curve, Pearl, Storm

Getting Deep With The Owner’s Lounge

deeplivescreen

Sometimes we forget to stop by the BlackBerry Owner’s Lounge to find out what’s new and changed, as it’s a much overlooked virtual “coffee house”. One of the latest promotions they are offering is a great demo version of Deep LiveScreen from DreamTheme.Mobi. LiveScreens are amazing applications that have many features bundled in with it. It has a screensaver that is animated.  It comes complete with various options of backgrounds, ringtones, slick animations, and unique icons to suit your individual style. The screensaver, or Home Screen also has a theme you can use in conjuction with the screen. The demo is fully functional but without the ability to customize.

The Deep has an underwater theme, all related to being in the ocean and the waters move as if you are below. There are several other LiveScreen applications, but the free demo is only the Deep Second-generation, and for a limited time only, they are offering a 30% discount using the code ‘Dream30′ for that very LiveScreen.

RIM seeks to Hug Suppliers as the Economy Falls.

rim-logo

Interesting news has come from Bloomberg, re: Research in Motion, Ltd (NASDAQ GS:RIMM) Squeeze On Suppliers. RIMM has experienced revenue growth this last quarter, and has always maintained a focus not only on growth, but the margins as well, especially as it has broken more into the comsumer market from the corporate side of the spectrum. Investors were worried as RIM went from being the Business Phone of choice, to reaching out to a consumer based market as well, appealing to the consumers in the smart phone industry.

Gross margin is anticipated to around 44 percent, it currently is at forty percent. Investors have been concerned with the recent numbers. RIMM’s transitioning from the high spending businesses to a much more costly consumer smart phone market has shrunk the margin 10.7 percent.

The company is predicting and looking forward to a rebound in rise of margins this quarter.

Co-Chief Executive Officer Jim Balsille of Research in Motion Ltd stated that the Blackberry maker is lowering supply costs as the expanding growth will give them enough of a pull to push for deals in this recession. He shared during an interview in Waterloo, Ontario, that what makes an important customer is being a company strong in growth in a challenging environment. He said it is probably assisting the company with being able to strike better deals from the companies manufacturing the equipment for the phones.

With smaller expenses and new sources of revenue, such as the App World Application Store, it might be what RIM needs to bring up the margins and rise again. Some of the manufactures have also pushed back on their suppliers to help with the costs.

In a market experiencing the worse global recession since World War 2, businesses must meet the changes in order to thrive.

RIM’s main five suppliers make up 90 percent of production costs. It’s five main suppliers are Elcoteq, SE; Jabil Circuit Inc.; Marvell Technology Group, Ltd.; Multi-Fineline Electronix Inc.; and Qualcomm Inc.

Howard Stern says he will take BlackBerry Bold over Palm Pre

howard_stern_sirius2

Oh Snap! I’m sure thats not quite the PR that Palm was looking for. Howard Stern has gone public saying after testing both the BlackBerry Bold and Palm Pre that he prefers the Bold. Stern has been a long time Palm fan, but the lack of Lotus notes is holding him back from Palm’s new toy. His exacts words “They’re going to show me the Pre and then take it away. They’re trying to build excitement for this thing. If people don’t buy this I don’t see how Palm keeps going.”

Doesn’t really seem like the type of PR that Palm wants to start with?
