WES2009 has now been going on for two days. I’ve been watching my Twitter, reading it and enjoying the pictures and updates. While it was somewhat quiet today, there were a few tweets from our fellow Tweets. So here’s what you have missed this Tuesday if you’re not following Al Sacco, Bla1ze, CrackBerry Adam, CrackBerry Kevin, Nan Palmero, and/or Simon Sage. Thanks to these fantastic BlackBerry advocates, we are able to have a glimpse of what we’re missing. So here’s what happened Tuesday.

Keynotes today, and Mike Lazaridis spoke about the BlackBerry birthday, success, and growth. There was a little bit spoken about Chalk Media and Mobile Voice System. Wireless Presentation Solution for Projecting Power Point was mentioned. LotusLive was mentioned as well. Today was mostly pertaining to BES, but there were some fun moments and the entertainment for the evening was a dj and Will.i.am.

RIM CEO confirms BlackBerry Storm 2 in the works!

blackberry-storm-sidebyside

Research In Motion co-CEO Jim Balsillie has confirmed with Reuters that they are in fact working on a next generation Storm. RIM saw strong sales of their heavily criticized BlackBerry Storm and that means that they will continue working on next generation versions for the consumer market. The RIM CEO would not confirm anymore details about the device and if it will even be called “Storm 2″ but I guess that’s just part of the waiting game.

Here’s part of what Balsillie had to say: Balsillie said Storm sales remain strong and added “we have next-generation devices with that and the whole roadmap.”

The Skylab Tracking Team has just informed us that their LiveTracker for BlackBerry app now supports Twitter. The program is still in beta but it’s also free for noncommercial use. With this program you now have the ability to share your GPS location through Twitter. That’s pretty sweet, free and to tweet it too! You can send your location through email, pin, sms, mms, and now Twitter to your location’s map representation. This is great not only for yourself, for friends, family members, and employees. I can see a lot of possibilities with this application. If you would like to download LiveTracker in Beta #3, you can find it here.

Software Alert: A Free Version Of vPost Now Available

    vpostapp

Mauricio E.T.  noticed that vPost has posted a new free version of their application through BlackBerry App World. Well, I took a look in the BlackBerry App World and this is what I found. It’s the basic personal use of Vayyoo, Inc’s vPost version 2.0.0.79. Now for those of you out there who aren’t familiar with vPost, it’s a very useful application. The application is published by Vayyoo, Inc. It allows you to send multimedia files by email, which include notes, pictures, video, and voice recordings all in one email and includes Geo-tag and GPS. It’s really impressive to send emails to friends and coworkers from events live and let them share and even see the location. The free version has a 1 MB size limit, which is still configurable in Premium Edition.

The Premium vPost edition has exclusive features, ease of use, and more data capacity. The Premium version is 2.1.0.85.  If you are interested in the Premium version which is priced at $9.99, you can find it here.

    Minimum requirements are os 4.5, 4.6, 4.7

    Compatible handsets are: 8100 (Pearl), 8110 (Pearl), 8120 (Pearl), 8130 (Pearl), 8220 (Pearl Flip), 8300 (Curve), 8310 (Curve), 8320 (Curve), 8330 (Curve), 8350i (Curve), 8800, 8820, 8830, 8900 (Curve), 9000 (Bold), Curve, Pearl, Storm

App Alert: Free SocialScope Lite Twitter Client Available

    socsco1

Quick note: It would seem that SocialScope is no longer accepting any new users for the Lite at this point, since the beta application is in alpha and therefore still in progress. In any case, fill out your information and request your invite and they will notify you as soon as they have an account available for you. I’d highly recommend it, it’s worth the wait.

For the past month or two, I have been part of the closed beta of SocialScope and was able to use the application and compare the client to others. It’s a social network application that integrates Facebook with Twitter. Recently SocialScope released SocialScope Lite. The icon is different and seems more appeasing to the eye as well as there are options the full version had, there does seem to be a more user friendly view to it.

You might wonder what makes this application so great? Well for one you can add both your Facebook and your Twitter accounts, and set the application to alert you with every status update, and/or when there are status updates on Facebook and replys and Direct Messages from Twitter. There are multiple tabs for each account and groups. You can also Forward as a ReTweet, email, or sms. You can set profile alerts for each type of tweet. You can view profiles, followers, friends, updates, and the options of following and unfollowing. You can see you own profile, and see all current tweets and status updates as they happen. You can also view pictures in the application as well, including those from TwitPic.

I can honestly say I haven’t had any error issues, the only thing is when I restart my BlackBerry, I’ve had to resign in to my account, but everything else is great. It lets me reply and retweet with ease. I liked it so much, it remains the only Twitter application on my BlackBerry. If you would like to sign up for the SocialScope Lite in beta, click here and request your invite.

Survey Says….RIM Leads The US Business Industry

    business

The iPhone’s Develeloper’s Journal just posted the findings of a Report on their site. The Strategy Analytics Wireless Enterprise Strategy Service Report is available and the results are in. RIM is leading in the business industry with the smart phone market share at 37% in all sizes of US businesses, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform is following behind in second with 26%. According to the survey, RIM customers were less willing to change their handset than other users on other platforms.

Some of the companies surveyed were Verizon and AT&T who carry most of the business subscriptions, AT&T are just a bit ahead in large enterprises (companies with 1000+), and Verizon showed deeper numbers along small companies (under 100). Employees of large enterprises showed to be the most loyal BlackBerry users. In the phones surveyed they also included Symbian, Google Android, and Apple’s iPhone, but not one of those phones were in serious running for the competition of US Business use.

How Do I Love Thee? A New App Measures Your BlackBerry Addiction

    i-love-blackberry

There’s a new beta that has come to the BlackBerry nation, and that is “I Love Blackberry” by EarlySail. The app can actually keep track of your hours and minutes you spend on your BlackBerry, and you can customize your work time so it can measure how much time you spend at work on it. It even checks for updates itself. Have you ever wondered how much time you truly spend on emails, texting, the BlackBerry messenger, viigo, games, all those little guilty pleasures we have at our hands? Well this app is the answer to it all. The best part? It’s free. I downloaded it out of curiousity, just to see what it says. I”m hoping it doesn’t say I need to go to rehab or anything close. The current version allows you to share your results with one friend via email at a time, the next generation will have the ability to share with friends and associates. I could see where this would be fun to share with your friends and family and see who’s the worse and least addicted. If anyone else has installed this or is going to install, please keep me posted and I will share and compare my results. Too bad there’s not varying degrees of use such as the fan, obsessive, addict, hopeless even. It might make it a little more humorous.
