BlackBerry Curve 8350i in the wild!

The folks over at BGR got their hands on a live BlackBerry Curve 8350i. This is the latest in the iDEN BlackBerry lineup, which will launch on Sprint-Nextel sometime in December and on TELUS’ Mike early next year for Canada. Here’s a few bullets from what The Boy Genius had to say about it:

  • The 8350i has a 2.5mm headset jack, not a 3.5mm one, and it comes with a 2.5mm headset in the box.
  • Ships with the much beloved plastic holster, not the leather holster we’re accustomed to.
  • There’s a small size difference. It’s around 2mm taller and 1mm thicker than the other Curves (8300, 8310, 8320, 8330).
  • The PTT button can not be reassigned as a convenience key.
  • Instead of using the same battery as the Curve, the 8350i uses the BlackBerry 8800-series batteries.
  • The side keys are now black instead of being chromed
  • We were told the device isn’t a real beast in terms of the signal department. “It can’t get a stable signal to save its life once it boots up”

T-Mobile launches BlackBerry Curve 8900

(stay tuned for actual press shots from RIM…)

Early this morning T-Mobile Germany and RIM announced the release of the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (formally known as Javelin). Available Mid-November, the Curve 8900 is the latest upgrade in the Curve series of smartphones. It features a large 2.4″ high resolution display, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, enhanced media player with podcast support, EDGE, Wi-Fi, OS 4.6 and a thinner desig with full QWERTY keyboard.

The Curve 8900 will cost 359 Euros ($450 USD) with no contract or 4.95 Euros with 24 month contract. Now that T-Mobile Germany has announced this new Curve. Announcements from AT&T, Maybe T-Mobile USA? and Rogers can’t be too far behind.

Interesting enough in this announcement they didn’t make any comments to a newly re-designed trackball? Originally it was said that the Curve 8900 would launch with an Atomic trackball. I wonder if thats still a go? Read More

GSM only BlackBerry Storm flys thru FCC

Some interesting news arrived today. The FCC has approved a GSM only version of the BlackBerry Storm, this is not the 9530 World Edition which will be seen by Verizon. It seems this GSM only Storm will be packing WCDMA 2100 and will be very similar to Vodafone’s Storm 9500.

At this point we aren’t too sure what networks may see the GSM only Storm, but keep in mind Rogers is suppose to get a Storm varriant next year… AT&T or T-Mobile can’t be too far behind.
