RIM releases Enhanced Google Mail (Gmail) Plugin for BlackBerry

I just added a new email account to my BlackBerry this morning, only to find that RIM has released their Enhanced Google Mail Plugin for BlackBerry. This plugin allows you to flag messages as spam, perform local and remote searches, archive emails, and view related emails as a threaded view. Download this Plugin OTA (Over the Air) on your BlackBerry at blackberry.com/gmail.

The Enhanced Google Mail™ plug-in for BlackBerry® smartphones introduces an advanced level of email service integration for BlackBerry smartphones. It supports additional Google Mail™ features that provide BlackBerry® Internet Service subscribers with broader access to their Google Mail accounts while on the go.  The Enhanced Google Mail plug-in is optional. Existing and new Google Mail integrations will continue to function without it.

Note: The Enhanced Google Mail plug-in requires BlackBerry® Device Software 4.5 or later and Google Mail integration within the BlackBerry Internet Service. The Google Mail integration must use IMAP, not POP, to function correctly. Google Mail accounts integrated after March 2009 use IMAP. Deleting an existing account and re-integrating it will ensure that the account is using IMAP.

BlackBerry smartphone users with existing integrated Google Mail accounts must re-associate their email accounts to receive the link to download the Enhanced Google Mail plug-in.

Features

Add and remove labels and stars on email messages

  • Report spam email messages
  • Perform local and remote searches
  • Archive email messages
  • View related email messages as a single conversation (threaded view)

Note: Synchronization happens in one direction, from the BlackBerry smartphone to the Google Mail account. This means that some changes that take place in the webmail UI are not reflected on the BlackBerry smartphone. These include:

  • Applying labels and stars to email messages in Google Mail after they are retrieved by the BlackBerry Internet Service.
  • Labels that are renamed in Google Mail are not applied to the corresponding labels on the BlackBerry smartphone. The new label is synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone, but does not replace the existing label.
  • Email messages that are marked as read, archived, or spam in Google Mail are not marked as spam on the BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Labels cannot be created, renamed, or deleted using the BlackBerry smartphone.

You even have the option in the app to personalize it by choosing a Watchlist of must-follow companies, and it caters to professionals who need that important content and up to date business news for that edge in todays business. Update: Pandora Is Updated to v1.1.1

If you have Pandora, please update your app if you haven’t done so already. The update brings some network connection fixes, and solves the HTTP 502 error and other network issues like the “connection closed”. Pandora is my favorite digital radio app available for the BlackBerry. You can listen to radio based on your favorite band or song.

The new update includes the following:

  • Fixed HTTP 502 issue (and other networking-related issues such as the “connection closed” problem on the 8350i)
  • Fixed volume going to “full” after an audio system alert (phone, email, IM) on Storm
  • For listeners who use the low end of the volume scale, the jump from 3 bars to 4 bars isn’t as jarring anymore

    • If you have Pandora, I highly recommend that you update the app as soon as you can, and if you don’t have Pandora, you don’t know what you’re missing. Besides, it’s FREE.

    Update: WordPress for BlackBerry Update Available for v0.9.0.140

    WordPress updated their app for BlackBerry to v0.9.0.140.  This app is great for a few reasons, you can work on your blog from wherever you are with your BlackBerry and it’s FREE! The app is finally working and I haven’t heard of anyone else having issues connecting. So what’s new in this latest update?

  • Improving response time of the user interface
  • Removingthe photo multimedia option in the app because photo settings are managed in the main BlackBerry camera app

    TIME Magazine gets BlackBerry App by Polar Mobile

    Polar Mobile, based out of Toronto, has launched TIME Mobile for the BlackBerry. The app is free, and it has the latest news as it hits the media, you can read opinions and of course analysis by TIME influencial writers and bloggers, and especially TIME’s LISTS and the pictures that TIME is known for.
