iPhone 3G gets announced.. I want a Bold still!

While usually we only cover BlackBerry news on the site this post is special. Apple has announced their upgraded iPhone featuring 3G and GPS. Apple also announced the new price tag of their 3G iPhone's. The 8GB version will ring in at only $199 everywhere (meaning $199USD or $199CAD) of course with a contract. AT&T will continue to be the exclusive carrier in the United States and looks like both Rogers and Fido will have it in Canada.

Now with all this iPhone talk how long before carriers release the BlackBerry Bold and RIM introduces the BlackBerry Thunder?

Rogers launching UMA with Wi-Fi Pearl 8120

Rogers logo

Our friends over at CrackBerry have received some new details regarding Rogers launching a UMA service, similar to T-Mobile’s Hotspot@Home. The service will allow customers to use a Wi-Fi network for local and long distance calling. The plans will start at $15 extra a month for unlimited local talking and $20 for unlimited nationwide calling. New competitive International long distance rates will also be seen with these plans. The service will be seen on both Rogers and Fido, however Rogers will launch the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 (featuring Wi-Fi) to go along with this service. This UMA service will be called “Rogers Home Calling Zone” and will launch May 6th for non-business clients only.

The Facts:

  • Rogers Home Calling Zone is what the service will be called and will also be seen on Fido
  • Rates start at $15 for unlimited local calling and $20 for unlimited nationwide
  • Launch devices include the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 and a Nokia phone
  • The service is targeted to launch May 6, 2008

My one question for Rogers is how long before the Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry Curve 8320 launches??

Another rumor: Telus Curve 8330 delayed until Summer?

Telus logoWhat could be more bad news has hit the RIM rumor mill today. According to a post on HowardForums someone seems to think the BlackBerry Curve 8330 for Telus may be delayed. The post claims that Telus is having issues with testing and that we might not see it launch until Summer 2008!?!?! Even though Bell and Sprint are known to be launching it sometime next month. Let’s really take a deep breath and hope this is a hoax.
