Internal performance metrics show double-digit percent improvement year-over-year (i.e., March 2007 to March 2008) for drops (i.e., where a customer’s voice connection fails or drops during a call) and blocks (i.e., where a customer is unable to make a voice connection) for the Nextel National Network. Customer issues related to dropped and blocked calls, and voice quality combined, have decreased more than 60 percent year-over-year (i.e., March 2007 to March 2008). This level of improvement translates to a more reliable calling experience for our customers. Customer calls on the Nextel National Network are successfully connected and maintained better than 99 out of 100 times.

BlackBerry Storm/Thunder gets boxed for Verizon
Finally some more details on the highly anticipated BlackBerry Thunder or Storm 9530. As you may or may not know this will be RIM’s first touchscreen BlackBerry smartphone. Anyways it seems that Verizon will be using the BlackBerry Storm name and not Thunder as we saw before. This puppy will be packing a 8GB microSD card in box, 3.5mm headphone jack, Sim card slot for international roaming and NO Wi-Fi (sorry folks!).

Boy Genius seems to think that RIM will go with BlackBerry Storm for Verizon and other carriers such as Vodafone and Rogers may see it branded as the Thunder. So maybe we will see several models (9500, 9530, etc.). He also notes he thinks the Storm/Thunder is still on track for launch later this year…

Vodafone’s BlackBerry Bold delayed until September now?
Word on the streets is that Vodafone’s BlackBerry Bold might not be launching for another month. This would mean the Bold has been pushed back at least two or three times now. We aren’t too sure what to say honestly… Let’s hope AT&T and Rogers stay on track for sometime this month and Vodafone please no longer than September 1st… In the mean time keep an eye on Vodafone’s website for updates.

Imagine submerging your BlackBerry in water and using it!

Can you imagine not ever having to worry about dropping your BlackBerry is a bucket of water? A new upcoming product called “Golden Shellback” will be the first to use a special technology designed by Marine experts. The Golden Shellback is a non-conductive polymer which your whole device gets coated in (inside and outside) allowing it to be resistant to water, dirt, dust, oil, etc. Don’t believe us? Just check out this promo video:

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video
This technology won’t be available for a few more months, but when it does become available you can expect it will retail for around $50 to $75 USD depending on the device. The only draw back to this is in order to have it done you will have to send it to the company. In the mean time if you can’t wait for that check out OtterBox who provides a heavy duty protection case for BlackBerry. Details on the Golden Shellback can be found on their website.
