att-blackberries-may24-picture-10-rm-eng

Engadget got a hold of supposedly a leaked presentation showing off some upcoming BlackBerry devices. This presentation shows the highly rumored BlackBerry Magnum, Onyx, Pearl 3G and Gemini are all heading to AT&T this year. Now I’m not to sure if these slides are official or not. If AT&T did make these they should really look at how to properly type BlackBerry (not Blackberry). You can check out the slides below and here is a recap of the specs:

  • BlackBerry Magnum: Full QWERTY keyboard with touchscreen, Optical trackpad, 3G UMTS, HSDPA, Quadband GSM, Wi-Fi, GPS and HVGA display.
  • BlackBerry Oynx: 3G UMTS, HSDPA, Quadband GSM, HVGA Display with 480×360 resolution, trackball navigation, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, GPS and Wi-Fi.
  • BlackBerry Pearl “Next Generation 3G Model”: 3G, UMTS, HSDPA, Quadband GSM, Suretype keyboard, trackball navigation and aGPS. No sign of Wi-Fi…
  • BlackBerry Gemini: Quadband GSM, QWERTY keyboard, Trackball (?) navigation, 2.0 megapixel camera with no flash, and media keys.

First Pics of BlackBerry Aries 8530, the CDMA version of Gemini

blackberry-curve-8530-aries-1

Meet the latest BlackBerry to obtain a code-name! This is BlackBerry Aries which is also modeled the 8530. It happens to be the CDMA counterpart to the Gemini which was shown a month or so ago. Like the 8530, “Aries” will be a lower end model featuring the new optical trackpad, full QWERTY keyboard, soft rubber back, dedicated play/pause keys on the top and most likely Wi-Fi. Because it runs CDMA technology its expected you will see this model end up on Verizon, Sprint, Bell and Telus. No word on a launch date as of yet, but most likely you will see it later Summer (think Back to School).

BlackBerry Onyx Spotted in the Wild!!

blackberry-onyx

So I know how everyone has been waiting for a 3G version of the BlackBerry Curve 8900. CrackBerry Kevin received a great tip including image on the BlackBerry Onyx which will be launching on T-Mobile later this year (September possibly?). Details are still VERY foggy on this model but apparently it will sport the hot new Optical Trackball along with a much sexier body than the Curve 8900. Boy Genius also claims that this BlackBerry code-named “Onyx” will feature AWS 1700MHz + 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, Wi-Fi, full QWERTY keyboard and a large 480×360 high resolution display. Hopefully we will see a front shot very soon? Stay tuned.

Update: Looks like the folks at Engadget got some extra shots of the “Onyx” including a full frontal shot. Funny enough this picture doesn’t have the optical trackball that BGR was talking about. Any luck at all this is just an early prototype that they haven’t installed it on yet.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 “Gemini” First Impressions Review

lg85201

Kevin doesn’t seem to be too shy with all these un-released BlackBerry devices. He recently got his hands on the new low end Curve (code-named Gemini) and now it’s time for his first impressions hands on review. This will be the BlackBerry Curve 8520 which will sport Quad-band GSM with EDGE (Unfortuantly no 3G), Wi-Fi, 2.0 megapixel camera with no flash, multimedia controls on the top of device and RIM’s new Optical Trackball. The Optical Trackball means that it physically doesn’t move and is more of a sensor. It’s quite a good idea to solve all those broken trackballs out there.

Curve 8520 Specs:

  • GSM/EGE device (no 3G)
  • 320×240 display
  • 256MB of internal memory
  • 1150mAh battery
  • 2 megapixel camera, no flash
  • processor speed is unknown at this point

Things to keep in mind: This is a still a pre-released device, therefore certain specs could change before the device officially launches.

Read the first part of the review at CrackBerry.com and enjoy more pics over there as well…

First Live Pics of BlackBerry 8520 “Gemini” Appear w/ Optical Navigation!!!

blackberry-curve-8520-5

First off let me start this with a huge shout out my the folks at CrackBerry for yet again getting their hands on this BlackBerry prototype. Previous pictures of the BlackBerry Gemini showed it as sporting interchangeable faceplates and normal trackball, but the new live pics provided today show off the 8520’s new Optical side. So I would to introduce you to an actual production unit of the BlackBerry Curve 8520 (aka Gemini). The 8520 will unfortunately lack 3G and keep the boring 2.0 megapixel camera (now without flash?), but will sport a new optical trackball and interchangeable faceplates and Wi-Fi. Interesting enough it seems that RIM will be offering this device as part of the Curve series and will bring even more multimedia functions including rewind, forward and play buttons located at the top of the device. Not only that but the 8520 will also sport a iPhone like back made from metal and rubber (pretty hot!). Anyway enjoy these pics for now and I’m sure we will see a hands on review coming up shortly…

Blackberry Tour 9630… to be or not to be?

niagarareview7Well as today’s news posts.. it looks like the Blackberry “Niagara” will now be called the Blackberry Tour. RIM always have made some cools names in the past (Bold, Storm, Curve, Pearl, World) but I’m not really sure about “Tour”….. Kind of reminds me of Guitar Hero, but at least they named it something that has meaning “World Tour”…. anyways that’s totally not relevant to this topic. However the Blackberry Tour 9630 should be one hot little device! With all the rumors going around about it, all the news, all the hype from people just waiting to get it… (Just like I can’t wait to get it… stupid waiting game, DOH!) I’m assuming name Blackberry Tour will have a meaning to it. Maybe RIM decided they want everyone to Tour around the world with their Blackberry Tour, and take a tour off track using the Tour GPS, while being a tourist and touring and….. by now you get the hint.

Looks like Blackberry Tour it is! Here’s a quote from over at BGR..

“UPDATE: Thanks to one of our awesome readers, they’ve just alerted us to the fact that www.blackberry9630.com (something RIM would obviously own) and www.blackberrytour.com both point to the same IP address. Additionally, they were both coincidentally registered on the same date. Welp, it looks like BlackBerry Tour it is!”

Wow… lots of good stuff!!

Keep close by your Blackberry to find out more news on the Blackberry Tour and if the name will stick! The device should be very….. VERY close to a launch, with working software, a name, some wireless carriers already lined up, and tons of them manufactured… We’ll all be playing with our Tours very soon!

Thanks BGR!

Breaking News: BlackBerry Storm and 3G Pearl Flip heading to Rogers

bb-storm-9520-rogers

I promised myself I wouldn’t be writing any news today, however some big news has broken! A small Christmas present to all BlackBerry addicts. News has broken that Rogers Wireless will be picking up two new BlackBerry smartphones in early 2009. First one will be 3G/Wi-Fi packing version of the BlackBerry Storm. This 3G version of the Storm will be modeled the 9520 and should see a price point of $199 with three year term. This will make it interesting for both Bell and TELUS who are currently offering it for $249 with three year term. Rogers will also be introducing the 3G BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200 with a secondary camera for video calling along with GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G support. No pricing is known for that model just yet. So anyways for now this is leaked information for now. Nothing confirmed officially by Rogers. Stay tuned!!

RIM working on Palm Treo killer next?

Boy Genius plans to keep everyone jumpy until WES 2009. Seems BG got a tip that RIM is working on a Storm-like Bold-like design. Apparently RIM will be showing off at WES 2009 (I know its a long ways away) this new touch screen model which is similar to the Bold and upcoming Curve 8900 (Javelin). It will compete directly with Palm’s touch screen models. So because this is very early information no official codename or model is known. Check out his mock up of this Treo Berry like device. Now I guess its time to sit back and wait for more details…
