OS Alert: OS 4.7.0.132 leaked for the BlackBerry Storm 9530!

blackberry_storm

Hi Stormies!

Kevin over at Crackberry has just let us know that OS 4.7.0.132 has been leaked for the BlackBerry Storm 9530!  It’s nice to see they have been keeping the updates coming!  I know that with every release, Verizon users are groaning because they have yet to see an official update.  But I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that an official update will come for Big Red sooner than later.

As is the case with any beta release, please do not attempt to install this update unless you know what you are doing, to prevent any unwanted damage to your baby.   Carriers do not support beta OS installs, so any problems you may encounter are your own to solve.  However, we are always here to help if you need it!

Click here to download the update and follow the standard process to install it.

Thanks again Kevin!!

Why Travelers Should Be Traveling The World By Storm!

blackberry-storm

According to the Vodafone Blog, they gave forty nine reasons why the Storm should be the device of choice for world travelers. The main features praised were the GPS and the 3G/High Speed Download Packet Access. I thought I’d share this blog with you and even ask for your opinions. I have the Curve myself, but never thought about a BlackBerry Storm from a traveling point of view. So I am going to share the top ten with you and then allow you to finish reading the blog from the site itself if you want more.

Number One was Time-Saving, also noting the 3.2MP camera it sports. The camera takes great pics and has many features that a Storm owner has access to right in the palm of their hands.

Number Two was Great For Business, because of how great the storm is with email, corporate email, and synchronization. It’s the ultimate phone for business and normal use. They forgot the important thing, because it’s a BlackBerry.

Number Three was Making and Receiving calls in Over 220 Countries with the quad band GSM. That is the nice thing about the Storm, the GSM as well as CDMA.

Number Four, Email in Over 90 Countries. Being able to take the Storm and email in that many countries is a privilege indeed. This is important for your family and friends waiting to hear from you.

Number Five, Lost-take your BlackBerry Maps. One thing about the BlackBerry Maps, they do function by GPS Satellite, so they work in the states and outside because of the GPS feature.

Number Six, Find your Nearest since the Storm can find your location and direct you to the nearest facility you seek. That includes nearest hospital, restaurant, etc.

Number Seven, Navigate, with GPS you can navigate by car or by foot. I know everyone thinks of it in the car, but what about if you’re taking a walk or hiking? Yes, the Storm can be your savior as well.

Number Eight was Internet Browsing. With the Internet at your fingertips, and the fast data speeds it can find, you can cruise the streets and the internet. And keep in touch with friends and family as you go.

Number Nine was Take Photos since the camera is 3.2MP and has 2x zoom. It’s pretty much a camera on hand, so why carry a camera when you have the Storm, travel light and carry memories.

Number Ten was Text Messaging using either the Qwerty Keyboard or Sure Type. Depends on whether you type in landscape or portrait mode, but there’s a style for everyone. Text has never been easier.

For Number Eleven clear through to Number Forty Nine, find it here.

Poll: How many Storm Users Have Been Experiencing Problems?

blackberry_stormMany BlackBerry Storm users on various forums/websites have complained about their BlackBerry Storm devices either freezing/crashing too often, or problems with the screen.  We know that with OS upgrades, a lot of the bugs and freezing issues have been resolved, as well as a couple tips like loosening the screws under the battery cover and even inserting a business card under the battery have helped with the screen.

But despite all of this, there are still reports of the device not being quite up to snuff.   We’re all looking forward to the new Storm that’s supposed to be released later this year with a better touch screen and WiFi (yay!) among other things, so hopefully that beauty comes sooner than later.

So we’d like to know if you’ve been having recurring problems, multiple device swaps or anything else not mentioned that’s really bugging you to no end about the device.   So if you have had any issues that make you pull your hair out, please post a comment and let us know.  Perhaps we can also use this as an opportunity to help each other out.

Pandora Radio now available on BlackBerry Storm!

pandora-2

It seems like not too long ago that Pandora released their BlackBerry application for the BlackBerry Bold, Curve, Pearl and 8800 series smartphones. Only issue was they didn’t release one for the Storm! Well it appears that Pandora has been update to new version 1.0.2 and with that brings support for the BlackBerry Storm. It doesn’t appear to be on their site as of yet but its confirmed to be working on Verizon Storms. At this time Pandora ONLY works in the United States and leaves Canada and the rest of the World in the dark…

But if your in the United States upgrade or get Pandora for the Storm at pandora.com/blackberry.

Must Have App for BlackBerry Storm: StormLock

stormlock-screenshot_1

Being a BlackBerry Storm owner, one of the biggest challenges is the touchscreen. Unfortunately its very easy to press speaker, mute or even flash during a call due to the touchscreen being heat sensitive. Previously I’ve tested applications that lock the keyboard while your on a call, however make it difficult if you need to unlock during a call. An application called StormLock seems to be your best bet. StormLock allows you to unlock your locked Storm with a simple press of the back key. Not only that but StormLock will also allow you to customize the time before the lock activates or even choose numbers that it won’t lock on such as voicemail or apartment door buzzer. StormLock features a very clean, simple and easy to use design which makes it almost fool proof. Another handy feature about this application is the fact that you can now set StormLock to one of your side convenince keys, making it even easier to use on the go. It’s available for the low price of only $2.95 and is worth every penny in my opinon.

Review: vPost by Vayyoo for BlackBerry

I would like to introduce you to a program called vPost. VPost is an application published by Vayyoo. The application description states that you are able to send by email up to five different multimedia files in an email which includes: voice notes, pictures, video, and map location by utilizing your BlackBerry media. I evaluated this software on my Blackberry Curve 8330.

My wireless carrier does not have the GPS open so the GPS function was not enabled for this application. When first opening the application, I only knew what the description stated. The program is priced around ten dollars for a onetime fee. The icon sits as a little black box with blue lettering, once installed. I really was interested in this software for a few reasons, having all the phone’s multimedia applications in one place, and how it would appeal to newbies who have not gotten the hang of the video camera, camera, or voice notes. BlackBerry “Storm 2″ gets acknowledgment from RIM Employee

storm2

Apparently one of RIM’s Channel Sales Managers, Alain Segond von Banchet has gone on record with a Dutch news site called Tweakers saying the Storm 2 (not the final name) will “offer among other things a new manner to input text”. We presume he’s talking about Wi-Fi then? and scraping everyone’s favorite Surepress touchscreen? Interesting… I didn’t think that RIM would have an official comment on the “Storm 2″ but there you go. The employee also goes on to say that RIM may not go towards an exclusive deal with just Vodafone this time and open it up for all to get. He also points out that RIM may release the “Storm 2″ near the end of this year or early next.

What do you think the new Storm 2 should feature?

BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS 4.7.0.122 officially released by Bell!!

bell-bbstorm

Awesome news for BlackBerry Storm owners! Bell has officially released one of the best Storm OS’ to date! If you connect your Storm to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software and follow the instructions for an update you will now see the option to install OS 4.7.0.122. Reports from various users say that this verison OS could be one of the best ones seen yet. This sounds very promising for Storm owners (especially the ones running the Stock .76 OS). Anyway for now Bell has not placed this OS on their BlackBerry Download Site for everyone to download. Stay tuned for when that happens…

Any Bell Storm owners out there install this yet? If so let us know in the comments what you think…
