I honestly thought it would never come, but OtterBox recently released their Commuter Series for the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220/8230. It’s really no surprise that Verizon would be getting ready to clear out some of the older BlackBerry devices. GizmoFusion has provided screen shots that confirm Verizon has put the BlackBerry Storm 9530, Curve 8330, 8830 World Edition, and Pearl Flip 8230 to end of life status. As we said it’s really no surprise that Big Red decided to stop selling these devices, as most of them have been replaced by newer versions. The only device that really surprised me is the Pearl Flip 8230, and I would really like to know what will replace it. Myself I would really like to see a new CDMA Pearl smartphone…

Obviously the Storm 9530 was replaced by the Storm2 9550, Curve 8330 by Curve 8530, and 8830 well I guess that would be the Tour 9630. So what’s next for Verizon? We expect to see the BlackBerry 9650 (Tour2, Essex, Bold, or whatever) and hopefully a new Pearl smartphone. Stay tuned for more details…

Cocky Culture has a variety of themes, very unique and very original. We’ve posted the review of Conquest, which is a fave of mine.  The theme I’m reviewing is Rocker Chic. The theme is very rock styled and classic. And there couldn’t be a better time for a new theme, especially with the fifty percent sale!

I downloaded the theme to my BlackBerry 9630 Tour. The theme is dark yet vibrant. It sports wings behind a heart that is edged in black, like an antique valentine. The battery bars are displayed in lavender. The wings are like burnt sienna. The heart is a dark red and in the right lobe sits a skull within the heart. There’s a blotch of white in the background. Five icons sit on the bottom, messages, contacts, calendar, browser, and media. Those are default, but they are able to be personalized to the five you’d like to show. When the menu is pulled up, the background is a salmon pink, and has antique like etching in the background. It reminds me of my great grandmother’s table cloths. The designed icons have black edging around them. When pulling up messages, for example, the menu is a darker salmon.

Now here’s another surprise. When you get a message, a heart appears in the corner of the icon, such as a message, or im. Even the browser has decor from the theme. It didn’t slow my Tour down, and adds personality. There are eleven different Premium themes that Cocky Culture has available, Rocker Chic being one of them.

This theme reminds me of a rocking Valentine every day. Now I rate according to how appeasing the theme is, which is very, the customer service which Tony is outstanding, and how my phone reacts to it, which was great. So on all counts, I give this theme 5/5. Conquest is really nice too, I can dress my phone with themes to show my mood or feeling of the day.

Just a week or two after Verizon announced they would be launching the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, it’s become available officially. Starting today you can purchase the Pearl Flip 8230 from Verizon for only $79.99 with two year contract (after rebates). Verizon has launched the 8230 in an all silver colour and its expected they will be launching pink verison within the next few weeks. Just only a day after 8230 dummies started showing up at Verizon stores, they have officially released it. It looks like Verizon’s Pearl Flip will run you $129.99 after a $70 mail-in rebate with a new two year term. Verizon is said to be releasing the 8230 in both silver and pink, however the press release only have the silver one listed. We aren’t sure if that means the pink one will follow at a later date or if they forgot it. It’s not listed on Verizon’s website yet but it should show up later today on or around June 19th. Verizon customers who have been itching for Pearl Flip will be happy. It’s being reported that Pearl Flip 8230 dummy phones are starting to make their owns into Verizon stores. This means that we should see an official 8230 launch within the next week or so. Verizon is said to be launching it two colors (all silver and all pink). Exact release dates and pricing are not known as of yet. Verizon will join Alltel, US Cellular, Bell and Telus who have all already release this device.

The Pearl Flip which was recently introduced by Bell and Telus features the clamshell design with everything you know and love from a BlackBerry smartphone. There’s a new beta application available for the BlackBerry. It’s called buzzd. Now you might be wondering what all the buzz is about, so let me share with you. Before the application for the BlackBerry, it was only accessible online on it’s website or from a mobile browser. The program lets you know what events and concerts (50,000 events a month from Canada, the UK and US) are happening in the location you seek, and where to find food and drinks. The information comes from trusted sources and real time reviews from the buzzd community. It is the first application from the BlackBerry AppWorld to use Cell ID, which can be faster than GPS and it can be used in buildings, including clubs. This app is a direct result of the BlackBerry Partners Fund, and has the potential to be the leading location finder from BlackBerry AppWorld.

So let me tell you what makes it unique. The Cell ID is impressive, and hopefully we will see more of this type of location finder in other apps because while GPS is blocked by some providers or there may not be any GPS signal, Cell ID will work as long as there’s reception because it works with the cell sites. It receives its listings from over 20 content providers such as Citysearch, Last.fm, ZAGAT, and Flavorpill among others. It has a smooth UI and integrates with Twitter so you can broadcast to your tweeps where you are and what you’re doing. All the content Buzzd provides is free, unlike ZAGAT that has one source and runs $20.00. You send invites and get your friends to join. You can post a buzz, which a text to your friends. You can add events to your BlackBerry Calendar, and it integrates with your maps to allow you to find directions and locate the destinations (1.5 million venues available throughout Canada, the UK and US). BGR scored some great tips about upcoming launches on Verizon Wireless for BlackBerry devices. Apparently the Pearl Flip 8230 will be launching almost anytime (June at the latest) followed by the BlackBerry Tour 9630. The tipster also claims that (take a deep breath) Verizon will be launching another model to go along with the 9630 called Atlas, which will feature Wi-Fi. We aren’t too sure on that rumor yet but stay tuned. Apparently any BlackBerry models launched after the Tour (see Storm 2) will include Wi-Fi. The Storm 2, which has been floating around the internet will apparently feature Wi-Fi as well, plus some sort of new touch screen (most likely still with some clicking to it). Watch out for more details as they arrive…
