Why you shouldn’t drop your BlackBerry Bold…

Warning this story is a little sad… Boy Genius was un-loading his car this morning and dropped his BlackBerry Bold. The BlackBerry Bold dropped out of his hands and on to pavement. I can only imagine the pain he must have felt. After picking it up he discovered that it was a little damaged. Moral of the story get some kind of case to protect your Bold.

BlackBerry Bold goes up against Nokia E71

Boy Genius has taken the BlackBerry Bold for a spin many times before. This time he is running the Bold 9000 up against Nokia’s E71 Symbian smartphone. BG’s conclusion is the best part of the whole review because of one line “…the BlackBerry Bold smokes the E71 out of the water in so many ways…” anyways check out his full review.
“It’s a little hard to put this but… we absolutely loved the Nokia E71. It was the best S60 we’d ever used. And it still is, some would argue. There is no doubt it is the finest QWERTY device Nokia has made. Don’t bring up the E90, ok? Even though we had used a Bold prior to our Nokia E71 first review, it wasn’t until we had both devices together that we really had our mind change. This is a personal opinion here, but the BlackBerry Bold smokes the E71 out of the water in so many ways. The E71 is fine as a personal communication device, but once you enter into the realm of corporate email, or even small business, for that matter, the Bold is the reigning king, and will stay that way for a pretty long time.”

BlackBerry Bold hits Rogers: August 19th

Canadian’s are about to jump around with joy over this post! The latest rumor hitting the blogs is that Rogers is launching the highly anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9000 on August 19th. After a few delays this is amazing news for Rogers clients. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed as of yet but you can expect it won’t be too cheap. Another interesting tidbit about the Bold launch is that it won’t be supporting Rogers UMA (Talk Spot) at launch but it will come shortly after…

Also here is an internal document from Rogers comparing their three BlackBerry models:

BlackBerry Bold to feature Stewart Copeland Ringtones

News this morning that RIM has hired Stewart Copeland, the former drummer for The Police to create a soundtrack of ringtones and alerts for the BlackBerry Bold 9000.

“RIM commissioned Copeland to come up with a unique ‘theme’ for its just-launched smartphone. The result was a signature five-note melody which Copeland expanded into a percussive minute-long track simply named ‘Bold’ that’s preloaded (along with mock-up album art!) into the Bold’s ‘Sample Songs’ folder.

A softer version with an fade-in is used as an ‘alarm tone’ to gently rouse the Bold owner from his or her slumber, while six variations – which are actually excerpts form various parts of the Bold theme – are available as ring tones.”

Vodafone’s BlackBerry Bold delayed until September now?
Word on the streets is that Vodafone’s BlackBerry Bold might not be launching for another month. This would mean the Bold has been pushed back at least two or three times now. We aren’t too sure what to say honestly… Let’s hope AT&T and Rogers stay on track for sometime this month and Vodafone please no longer than September 1st… In the mean time keep an eye on Vodafone’s website for updates.

OS 4.6 to bring new theme options

With the upcoming release of the BlackBerry Bold some may notice a few new theme options in OS 4.6. With the new version for the Bold you are able to adjust the size of your homescreen grid. By default the grid shows 6 columns and 3 rows. This new feature allows you to change it to 4×4, 3×3, 2×2, or 1×1. This will be handy for some people who have difficult seeing the fonts and images.
