Boy Genius posted his opinion after going to the first U2 concert of the North American 360 Tour. It was rumored that the Mobile Album was going to be released yesterday with that concert, but the concert was the only event that took place. Boy Genius stated that there was hardly any advertisements by RIM.
The post describes Boy Genius feeling what many of us would have felt if we had been there. Only a few banners of BlackBerry Loves U2 and a small hot-dog stand like place with a small BlackBerry ad. So why wasn’t there a vendor, or RIM reps representing BlackBerry? Why wasn’t there a screen with BlackBerry? And why hasn’t the Mobile Album been released as of yet? Who’s to say. With as outspoken and political as U2 are, perhaps that was part of the agreement. Perhaps U2 wanted as little signage as possible. Then again, It is an expensive investment RIM has invested in, so where’s the love?

Back when we first heard of the tour, the codename was the Niagara. When U2 announced their tour, the 360°, BlackBerry gave news of sponsoring the U2 Tour and also allowing U2 special priveleges into the “lab” It was just the beginning. We had to know the Niagara would change.
Wasn’t long after that the Niagara became the Tour. We shouldn’t have been surprised, after all it would only be fitting that U2 have an influence over a BlackBerry World smartphone. The BlackBerry site has had information on the u2 Tour, and is linked to their site, and the 360° Tour began June 30th in Barcelona. It also has launched a site called the “BlackBerry loves U2″ on which it declares “Introducing the U2 Mobile Album”. Watching the teaser left me anticipating amazing outcomes. The concert is from the No Line On The Horizon, their latest cd. On the BlackBerry/U2 site, there is also the option to watch the Teaser Video, I’m really excited.

The teaser seems to introduce an app, since I couldn’t find anything like that on the U2 site. It appears to include news, videos, and it says experience the Tour from all angles. According to a website, @U2, the app appears to have five sections: Album (No Line On The Horizon); News, 360 Tour; Who’s Listening; and Gallery. And knowing BlackBerry and U2, this will definitely be unique.

In the app there also appears to be a viewing of the stadium, I’m guessing it’s a way to unite U2 fans to U2, identifying the band and your friends in the stadium! One thing I can say about U2, they are very much political and outspoken in their views, believe in everyone everyone coming together as one (isn’t the BlackBerry Nation somewhat the same?), it just works. I also noticed they are coming with the Black Eyed Peas. Hmm, didn’t Will I Am make the “Hit Me On My BlackBerry” song? Coincidence?
If you’re interested in U2 and the Tour, please check it out here and sign up for the U2 Mobile Album, I know I did!

BGR scored some great tips about upcoming launches on Verizon Wireless for BlackBerry devices. Apparently the Pearl Flip 8230 will be launching almost anytime (June at the latest) followed by the BlackBerry Tour 9630. The tipster also claims that (take a deep breath) Verizon will be launching another model to go along with the 9630 called Atlas, which will feature Wi-Fi. We aren’t too sure on that rumor yet but stay tuned. Apparently any BlackBerry models launched after the Tour (see Storm 2) will include Wi-Fi. The Storm 2, which has been floating around the internet will apparently feature Wi-Fi as well, plus some sort of new touch screen (most likely still with some clicking to it). Watch out for more details as they arrive…

Warning! Before reading this keep in mind that the dates may change. Boy Genius Report claims several ninjas have reported that Verizon will be launching the BlackBerry 9630 Tour during the week of July 13th. Now it hasn’t only been BGR to confirm this rumor but a well known ninja on HowardForums has also confirmed this date. So either way we know its coming to Verizon and its only a matter of time so please be patient.
Meanwhile if any ninjas out there could confirm some Canadian release dates for the 9630 that would be awesome!

Alright so BGR has already confirmed that the BlackBerry 9630 which was code-named “Niagara” will now be called BlackBerry Tour and may possibly have something to do with U2. Well BGR now has a very creditble source who claims that Verizon will be launching the BlackBerry Tour this July. Also they expect the pricing to be around $199 with contract. We aren’t sure what that means for any of the other carriers such as Bell, Telus or Sprint as of yet. Earlier reports claimed that both Bell and Telus would be launching the 9630 before the United States so keep an eye out for more details…

Well as today’s news posts.. it looks like the Blackberry “Niagara” will now be called the Blackberry Tour. RIM always have made some cools names in the past (Bold, Storm, Curve, Pearl, World) but I’m not really sure about “Tour”….. Kind of reminds me of Guitar Hero, but at least they named it something that has meaning “World Tour”…. anyways that’s totally not relevant to this topic. However the Blackberry Tour 9630 should be one hot little device! With all the rumors going around about it, all the news, all the hype from people just waiting to get it… (Just like I can’t wait to get it… stupid waiting game, DOH!) I’m assuming name Blackberry Tour will have a meaning to it. Maybe RIM decided they want everyone to Tour around the world with their Blackberry Tour, and take a tour off track using the Tour GPS, while being a tourist and touring and….. by now you get the hint.
Looks like Blackberry Tour it is! Here’s a quote from over at BGR..
“UPDATE: Thanks to one of our awesome readers, they’ve just alerted us to the fact that www.blackberry9630.com (something RIM would obviously own) and www.blackberrytour.com both point to the same IP address. Additionally, they were both coincidentally registered on the same date. Welp, it looks like BlackBerry Tour it is!”
Wow… lots of good stuff!!
Keep close by your Blackberry to find out more news on the Blackberry Tour and if the name will stick! The device should be very….. VERY close to a launch, with working software, a name, some wireless carriers already lined up, and tons of them manufactured… We’ll all be playing with our Tours very soon!
Thanks BGR!

Our friends at BGR are reporting that WES (Wireless Enterprise Symposium) 2009 might show off some exciting new toys! First thing right off the bat is AT&T will finally be showing off the BlackBerry Curve 8900 aka Javelin after much delay. Not only that but RIM hopefully will formally announce the BlackBerry 9630 “Niagara” which is the new CDMA World Edition smartphone. As you may know the 9630 will take from both the Bold and Curve 8900 series to bring an all new design with tons of great features. BGR goes on to report that Canada may be the first to see the 9630 launch on presumally Bell and Telus late May, then followed by Verizon in June/July.
That’s most of the hardware related news for WES 2009. With any luck at all RIM won’t disappoint us this May. Oh and in case your wondering WES 2009 runs from May 5-7, 2009…
