Foursquare has updated again, and this time it’s officially in the BlackBerry App World with BBM integration once again, provided you’re using the BBM v6 which is available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. There’s been a few changes since they first added the BBM integration, check it out…
Foursquare is a fun GPS check in game which allows you to check in places with friends or alone, and unlocking specials and making Mayor along the way. FourSquare was the original check-in before Facebook Places came about. For a quick rundown of what FourSquare is in case you have been out of the loop and have seen your friends status on Twitter and Facebook stating their whereabouts with FourSquare, here it is:
Foursquare is a location-based mobile platform that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. By “checking in” via a smartphone app or SMS, users share their location with friends while collecting points and virtual badges. Foursquare guides real-world experiences by allowing users to bookmark information about venues that they want to visit and surfacing relevant suggestions about nearby venues. Merchants and brands leverage the foursquare platform by utilizing a wide set of tools to obtain, engage, and retain customers and audiences.
Foursquare is free. They’ve come a ways since they started and we were really excited when they added the BBM integration in the Alpha version. Some users had trouble making it work, so they released an update which removed the BBM integration. We had posted the original update with BBM integration along with some tips on how to make it work. This current release which is in BlackBerry App World installs and works like a charm. If you haven’t tried it, now’s the time. It’s free and you may find some great specials along the way, so there’s nothing to lose. Get Foursquare or be square.
