How to load WordPress App on the BlackBerry PlayBook
Since the very first day the BlackBerry PlayBook launched I’ve been bagging WordPress for an app for the PlayBook. WordPress powers millions of blogs, including BBSync, and like many bloggers I would love to be able to write on the road. Well with the recent leak of the Android Player for the PlayBook, I decided to try and install the WordPress for Android app, and had pretty good success! I follow instructions found from multiple sites (N4BB, BerryReview, and CrackBerry Forums) and got it running pretty easily. Here’s what you need to do:
- First of all you will need to install the recently leaked Android Player for PlayBook (until the official release comes) — See here
- After the Android Player is installed: Install Platform-Tools file found on CrackBerry Forums
- Then install Astro file manager for Android found in the thread here
- Once Astro is installed on the Android Player you can then save APK’s via your PlayBook browser and read them on the Android Player
- From your PlayBook Tablet OS browser go to http://tinyurl.com/WordpressAPK and save the file
- Now open the Android Player and swipe from top, set home view, installed applications
- Select Astro File Manager
- Go to Download folder and click on wp-android APK, and click open app manager
- Click Install
- You’re done! You know have WordPress for Android on your PlayBook. Happy blogging!
Side note: I should point out that you can not use the camera in the Android Player, therefore if you want to upload pictures, you will have to download them from the Android web browser and save them on the Android Player.
Don’t forget to tweet @Wordpress if you would would like to see an actual #PlayBook app for WordPress be available someday.
