Using The Video Chat On The BlackBerry PlayBook

Scott and I tried out the Video Chat on our BlackBerry PlayBooks and it was really impressive. I like the fact you can carry the PlayBook while chatting and switch the cameras. It definitely is more convenient and reliable than Skype. Check it out…

If you haven’t used the Video Chat on the BlackBerry PlayBook yet, it’s very easy. First of all, you add your contacts as their email address for their BlackBerry ID. Then you’re able to receive calls and call your contacts. The PlayBook has a distinctive ringtone as it rings, you click Accept and you see your camera view as you wait a few seconds for the call to be connected.
The camera goes to the front facing, however if you touch the screen you will find the ability to switch the camera in the bottom. The view is clear and the call quality is great. I didn’t find the disconnects one commonly experiences with Skype. I’ve had quite the few friends using this feature and they love it, I was really surprised how easy it is to use, figure out, and preferred over even a phone call.
All the app requires is two BlackBerry PlayBooks, internet connection for each, and the time to talk. If you’ve tried it, let us know what you think. If not, you really need to try this.
