GENOA networks have released BlackBird in the BlackBerry App World. There haven’t been many Twitter clients introduced to the BlackBerry PlayBook, and this is the latest one. I had to download it and find out what it’s all about. Here’s what the BlackBird by GENOA gives you for $1.99…
First off, let me say I like the UI and the way it’s set up. Not all the features seem to be enabled at this time, but for what it has for now, I would say it has potential. The following works: All Tweets, New Tweet, Search, Trends, and Settings. When you purchase the app, you sign in as a new user and then it gives you a pin when you sign into Twitter and allow you to follow.
Here’s what doesn’t work: Mentions, Direct Messages, Lists, and Profiles. I really do believe those will be fixed in an update. You do have a refresh button as well.
What I hope to see: the features enabled that don’t work at this time, the ability to click on a user, see their tweets from their profile, and have more in options. I’d also like to see links open within the app but for now it’s just like viewing it on the pc.
I know some readers would hesitate to pay $1.99 for an app that is not fully functional, but it does look nice, the UI is appeasing and it does allow multiple accounts. We can question the whole expense of such an app for $1.99, but then again can we say that we have never spent a dime on a product that wasn’t fully functional to begin with but we knew would be revised and bettered? I would hope that as they improve the app, that the original purchase would guarantee the updates as free, but who knows.
