Don’t get too excited just yet. RIM has launched BlackBerry Messenger version 6.0 in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. But this isn’t the BBM 6.0 that everyone was thinking about (just yet). The current version keeps the same UI, but brings small performance enhancements, as well the BBM branding within the application itself. You can download it from the Beta Zone and upon downloading it you will be provided with a unique key code to run it. The version currently available for download is 6.0.0.73.

Here is a list of changes according to RIM:

– Updated BBM branding
– More “snappy” and responsive feel
– Visual distinction of message drafts vs. sent messages
– Any alerts set for SMS contacts are now preserved in BBM once an SMS contact is integrated with BBM
– Invite a Text Messaging Contact — it’s now easier to search contacts
– Location Search — you can now search for a location before sending, similar to the Location Search experience via SMS
– Location Sending — you can now detect your location with cell tower triangulation or GPS
– Appointment Sending — sending appointment or calendar events is now a similar experience to that of sending an appointment via SMS

You can check it out in the BlackBerry Beta Zone here.
