I was looking through BlackBerry App World’s Test Center and I came across GroupMe. I had to download it and try it out. It’s a very useful app. I know businesses use a system like this to keep in touch with their employees. It’s very impressive and does quite the job of keeping in touch with your groups. Check it out…
It didn’t take long to install GroupMe on my BlackBerry Bold 9650. One thing I liked is after you install it, it gives you the option to start making groups easily. The app works on all devices with OS 5.0 or higher. As soon as you install it, it lets you choose a group from your contacts and even gives you a free phone number to blast texts from. When you create the group, everyone in the group will get your texts. You can also conference call them which allows you to call them all with one phone call and even send pics.
I tried the texting first, which surprised my unsuspecting group members with a new number. The text went out and was received quickly. Then I tried Conference Calling. That worked reliably quick as well. I liked that we could have everyone on one phone call. Pictures, that’s another story. It takes a while and I nearly thought my phone had froze. So for pics, this wouldn’t be my vehicle of choice.
Pros: You’re able to use it for family, friends, and work. Don’t worry about sending texts out one by one, blast them all at once. Conference calling is a breeze and again, a great way to keep in touch with family, friends, and work. I could find several major uses for it.
Cons: The one con I did find was that pics take forever. It’s one of the only drawbacks I found but then again it’s free.
I can see this app useful to anyone, whether it’s personal or work related. If you have a select few you text or call, it’s perfect to stay in touch together. If you choose in app messaging, it’s faster than using SMS straight. Other phones can use GroupMe as well, so it’s a cross platform application. I believe the app has more potential and will improve as time passes. It works perfect with the exception of pics. Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
The supported OS is 5.0 and up, and the supported country is the United States for now with all carriers.
