Review: Battery Saver Pro v1.0 by MMMOOO

Many of us run a few apps that affect our battery of our BlackBerry. There’s several options: keep it on a charger when possible, check what’s running, or use an app that can help enhance the life of your battery. MMMOOO has released their Battery Saver Pro, which is available in the BlackBerry Sync Store for $2.99 normally, but is on sale for $.99 for a limited time. Check it out…

The Battery Saver Pro is small and installs quickly. it shows the time, date, percent of the battery visually and temperature of the battery. I tested this on my BlackBerry Bold 9650. It’s a great idea for those of us who are trying to keep from having a spare battery and charger on hand all the time, and if you run quite a few apps like I do. If you click the Menu Button you will see Help, Power Saver, Screensaver, Tell a friend, More MMMOOO, and About Us.

Help explains the options in Power Saver and what they do so let’s take a closer look.

Power Saver Options are as follows (all options are set at off as default): Device Lock; Display Manager; Monitor Radio Signal; Monitor WiFi; Auto off; and Monitor Processes.

Device Lock switch shows WiFi or LED On/Off. The Display sets the Time out and the Brightness, which I usually do when I set my BlackBerry up at the very start to begin with in Options. Monitor Radio Signal is pretty neat in that you can set it to turn the radio off if there’s a low signal for ten minutes. This can be great if you’re roaming or if a nearby tower goes down so that your battery isn’t depleted. Monitor WiFi is the same. Auto off is for you to turn off the WiFi in certain time periods. And my favorite, Monitor Processes. This will alert you to turn off your chosen 3rd party apps which run in the background. I usually check what apps are running that I haven’t closed out and close them out randomly throughout the day except those I check often. But for someone who wants to monitor less often, it’s perfect.

Your Screensaver option set’s the battery info as a screensaver, allowing you to customize the color, flag, and picture. I love the idea of screensavers, and this one allows you to choose how long before it runs, when the backlight is off and when the usb is connecting, and choose the battery to be a color, flag, or picture.

I can see it being very useful for the person who is busy and doesn’t want to do maintain their phone throughout the day but needs it to last. And with the added screensaver, it’s a nice idea. Great concept and for the price, it’s a small price to pay to keep your battery charged a little longer.

Pros: Small, installs quickly, and has several ways to maintain and control the functions that can wear on your battery life. Price is very inexpensive as well. I really love the customizing ability and the screensaver that allows you to customize the way it looks and runs. The customization of this app allows you to try different options and see what works best for you. There’s also a free trial so you can try before you buy.

Cons: Some of the features are available on your phone if you take the time to set it up as so. It has some features that might be a bit complicated as to how you set it up, but like a few toolbox apps, it takes some configuring to figure out what works best for your phone.

You can grab a copy of Battery Saver Pro for $2.99  $.99 in the BlackBerry Sync Store here
