Verizon rolls out BlackBerry 6.0 OS for Bold 9650 and Curve 3G 9330
RIM let us know that Verizon has finally begun rolling out the BlackBerry 6 OS update for the Bold 9650 and Curve 9330. Anyone with either of these models from Verizon can download this OS as of tonight via BlackBerry Desktop Manager, Over-the-Air (not recommended), or by visiting www.blackberry.com/update. This update brings the BlackBerry 6 experience to each device, including the new WebKit browser, universal search, social feeds, updated menus (UI), and no theme support (as of now). So if you’re a fan of themes on your BlackBerry we might suggest waiting for RIM to launch their Theme Builder for OS 6.0. Finally you might have noticed we said we don’t recommend the OTA update… This is more of a personal preference. In the past I’ve seen issues with the updates failing, and people losing all their data, therefore I always recommend doing the update via BlackBerry Desktop Manager and backing up your data first. Happy updating Verizon customers!
***Update: The OTA OS update for the Verizon Bold requires two updates. One for 5.0, then again for 6.0. So if you notice the 5.0 update and you notice it’s not the one you were expecting, keep in mind that you need to do it again to get 6.0. ***
