Is the BlackBerry Slider Getting a New Name? BlackBerry Torch? Hmmm…
Since we first saw the BlackBerry Slider its been sporting the Bold branding on the back, and we just assumed it would be called the Bold Slider, however the folks over at CrackBerry are reporting that they’ve received several tips about the device being re-branded. Apparently RIM is thinking about calling the hybrid device the BlackBerry Torch 9800. We aren’t too sure why RIM would call it the Torch… It could have something to do with RIM’s recent purchase of Webkit Browser developer Torch Mobile, or maybe they just really like the name Torch. Either way what do you think? Is it a good idea for RIM to seperate the Bold family from this upcoming slider?
If you aren’t too familiar with the device we’re talking about, it’s a prototype that leaked from the RIM HQ a few months ago. This device features a slider up design (similar to the Palm Pre) with a bold like QWERTY keyboard, and a beautiful large touchscreen (with NO SurePress clicking screen). Also included in this device will be a 5.0 megapixel camera, and the new BlackBerry 6 OS, with web-kit browser. You can see BBSync’s coverage of this device here. In case you’re wondering we aren’t 100% on when it’ll release, but we expect sometime between July-August.
Your thoughts?
