First Glimpse Of RIM’s BlackBerry Shield Appear

Thanks to BBNews for their pictures of the “BlackBerry Shield” the security suite that RIM is working on, we get a taste of what to expect. While the suite offers simple security features, it’s a very impressive addition to compliment your BlackBerry. I’ve tested many security suites such as SmrtGuard, Roblock, and SMobile Shield, but from the sounds of it the BlackBerry Shield will be free for those with BIS-B.

So what features will the BlackBerry Shield suite contain?

  • Remote Wipe of the device: this includes both the phone and the microsd card from a pc
  • Display Lost And Found: Display a message on your BlackBerry
  • Ability to remotely set the password on your BlackBerry
  • Loud Ringtone: The phone will ring loud to find it even if it’s set on silent or vibrate
  • Tracking Device
  • Backup: Wireless Backup and Restore

You can do these things with SmrtGuard, SMobile, and Roblock. These paid security applications also have a few more features that I find important to my BlackBerry. But it’s going to be very nice to have those features free and available by the manufacturer, it’s assurance and conveys support. It somewhat reminds me of Motorola’s  Motorola Blur and thePalm’s Palm Profile. I’m looking forward to see when it will become available. What are your thoughts on the Shield?

    None of the current solutions are secure. Hopefully, the RIM solution will let us back up our data using our own password, keeping it safe from identity thieves.

    I know for a fact that SMobile and SmrtGuard are extremely secured with backing up your information and keeping it secure. But I’m very excited to see BlackBerry using it for their own devices. I can tell you Kata, that BlackBerry is working on quite a few new things and it’s very promising so far! So keep posted, you’re going to be very happy with the new changes coming.
