Introducing CrunchSMS, A Free Beta SMS App For BlackBerry

We all love our BlackBerry smartphones. Do you still use text? How would you like an app that makes your tests appear like the chat-styled bubble SMS apps like on the  iPhone or Android phones? And how about if it was free and ad-free? If so, keep reading…

I thought this was a pretty clever app. I’ve seen some paid versions of this type of app, but this app is free and actually does what their’s do with no ads and no charge.

I installed this on my BlackBerry Tour 9630 to see what it would look like and this is what it does…

I know many of us love that bubble-styled chat, and this cures that want free. I liked that it mimics the Android styled phones, right down to that look. I always see comments about wanting BlackBerry to incorporate this feature, but now there’s an app that delivers for free. What do the options look like?

So all in, several options are available, and the beta application has some faqs available on the website including instructions. ***You can stop the normal texts from going to the regular SMS folder after installing by going to Options/Security/Advanced Security Options/Firewall and check SMS. You do not have to enable the firewall for this to work. Your SMS will then go into CrunchSMS only, not to both the SMS/MMS Folder and CrunchSMS.***

    For pre-OS-5.0 devices, CrunchSMS works well to get you threaded SMS. It’s still being improved, overall it’s quite useful and nice. I’ve been using it for about a month now and I do not miss the built-in OS 4.6 SMS.

    Picked up this beauty yesterday, and I absolutely love it! Took a while to figure out how to set it up so I could stop getting SMS in my “messages” app and stop my regular SMS app from kicking in, but there is a great FAQ section with the options that clearly explained how to do it. Another great app – thanks for the heads up BBSync!

    I know you can copy conversations to the clipboard but where can you access it? I copied one conversation to see where it would go but I cant find it. I have the BB Curve 8900. Thanks

    Lou, if you find out, let us all know! I’ve never been able to access the clipboard on my Curve 8530, except to post it in another text, or to a memo!
