Be Smart And Keep Your Guard Up, SmrtGuard Updated to v2.25!

SmrtGuard users, please open your SmrtGuard and you will be given the alert that there’s a newer version and to update. Remember, there’s always a reason for an update. We also have some information from SmrtGuard about their new additional features as well. For those of you who don’t have SmrtGuard, I’ll list the description and prices of subscriptions available in the BlackBerry Sync Store.

I had the opportunity to ask Lawrence Lee from SmrtGuard about the newest additional features to the well known security app and what the anti-virus/anti-malware does. He stated that SmrtGuard created their own anti-virus scanner that checks for any viruses/malware n the device. For now what it does for the most part is detect potential spyware (applications that are used to spy on another person’s BlackBerry and their data without their knowledge). If it does detect the spyware, the app gives the user the ability to remove it. Again, Rob stated as we know that currently there are no viruses written for the BlackBerry, however spyware is a known vulnerability and in the near future they are prepared in the event viruses become a threat.

Also as part of the v2.24 release they created a resource center that it made to provide user tips and advice on how to protect their smartphone and educate them on what’s out there as threats in terms of spyware/malware and the resource center will continue to be updated periodically.

I’m not too sure what the new update included, but SmrtGuard is available in three different subscriptions depending on the one you prefer. Monthly for $3.99, Semi-Annual at $22.99, and Yearly for $44.99 and are available in the BlackBerry Sync Store.
