Review: Case-Mate FUEL Rechargeable Holster for BlackBerry Bold 9700

One of my biggest fears is a dying battery on my BlackBerry, and even though it doesn’t happen often its nice to know I’m protected. For the past few weeks I’ve been testing out Case-Mate’s FUEL Battery Pack Holster for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Previously I had a chance to test out the same FUEL holster for the Bold 9000, and overall was pretty impressed. With the next generation Bold smartphone, comes the next version of FUEL holster from Case-Mate. Here’s my review of the FUEL Holster for the Bold 9700…

The Bold 9700 FUEL holster features a similar design, although instead of the Bold 9700 being inwards (with screen protected) like the Bold 9000 was, it faces outwards. I’m not a huge fan of leaving my device exposed to natural elements, but the overall idea of getting more battery life is worth it. I really don’t have too many negative things to say about the FUEL Holster for the Bold 9700, however I wish Case-Mate found a way to adapt the FUEL Holster to keep a case on my Bold 9700 for when its not holstered.

The Case-Mate FUEL for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 provides outstanding battery life. When the FUEL kicks in it offers Bold 9700 users 7 additional hours of talk time, or over 20 additional days of standby time, beyond the stock OEM battery. When the FUEL holster is turned on the three lights (seen above) shine a bright blue. This lets you know that the FUEL holster is active and is recharging your device. If you have your BlackBerry setup to use Bedside Mode when its plugged into the charging, this may cause an issue, as it will silence you phone, and will not ring. I found the bedside mode to be a huge pain when using the FUEL holster, and it caused me to disable it in the settings.

Overall I would say the Case-Mate FUEL holster is a great idea for those traveling, or who are always on the go. The FUEL Holster provides amazing battery life to a device which already sports great battery life. I wouldn’t say the FUEL holster is for everyone, as some people prefer to have a case on their device at all times. My only hope is that Case-Mate will create another generation of FUEL holsters with case built into it. If you are consistently running out of battery, I would suggest you take a look at the FUEL holsters from Case-Mate. Currently Case-Mate offers the FUEL holsters for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Bold 9000, Curve 8900, and Tour 9630.

    Such a sweet idea. I would carry it around to get the extra battery life when I’m not around a wall/vehicle outlet. I may have to invest in this product as I’m always killing my battery at the most inconvenient of times.
