Review: Fixmo Tools For BlackBerry By Fixmo Corp

January 4, 2010 | By | 15 Comments

Introducing an app that will keep track of the important functions and help you maintain them. Fixmo Tools is in Beta and is to your BlackBerry as any utility tool kit is to your PC. I downloaded the Fixmo Tools to give it a try and see what it does, it’s the ultimate need to have utility Tool.

The beta for Fixmo was announced by CrackBerry, but a link for friends is available as well. Rick Segal is  the Co-Founder of Fixmo Corp and has been really great with being available for questions and anything I may have needed. I expected it to be a general app for reading your phone, etc. But this Tool app exceeds any expectations I had. The app is unique and does so many things for your BlackBerry. I’ve never tried a memory tool but this is very impressive and I’m sure you’ll share the excitement I have over this app. So instead of singing it’s praises, let me describe the utilities it is composed of and what it means to you.

Fixmo is a small utility, installs quickly and it has two icons once installed. The description of the utilities are as follows as listed in the Help section:

Undelete: Undelete automatically saves deleted email messages (this it does without any effort, but only those deleted once the app is installed), PIN messages, calendar entries, contact entries, tasks and memos. Undelete saves up to 20 most recent deleted items.

Flame Retardant: Flame Retardant checks for a variety of classic email faux pas and gives you the chance to revise your email before it gets sent.

Silencer: Silencer automatically silences your phone when you have a meeting scheduled. You can also turn it on with an easy one-button push.

Forward/Reply With Edit: Just select “Reply with Edit”. “Reply All with Edit”, or “Forward with Edit” from the Email menu. That easy.

Battery Watch: Battery Watch monitors battery usage and notifies you of low battery. You can select when to be notified through the Alert Settings option. The details page provides in-depth information on remaining battery time for talk time, internet browsing, standby, audio, and video usage.

Memory Monitor: Memory Monitor provides information on device memory and storage to help you optimize your device performance. The details page provides in-depth information on remaining memory and a break-down of storage usage.

I installed Fixmo onto my BlackBerry Tour 9630, running 5.0.0.230. The icon is a nice red tint with the tool symbols and the silencer app is grey with a white face holding a finger to its lips. Clicking on the Fixmo Tools, you will see the 10 icons within it. The Undelete, Flame Retardant, Silencer, Forward/Reply with Edit, Battery Watch, Memory Monitor, Help, and three icons with different symbols that say “Coming Soon! Stay Tuned!”

Upon installation of Fixmo, you will receive an email that explains each of the apps with a detailed description and explaining what they do, some of the names, and why the utilities. Now you’re ready to check it out.

In checking out Undelete, I did delete some email, and undelete. Works fine and I can see where it’s a great utility for your phone. I know there’s times you can delete an email by accident, especially when your phone is freezing up. Or when you’re cleaning out your box. Or deleted it and find out it’s something you needed for reference. So this app to me is a lifesaver.

Flame Retardant is a great idea! It warns before sending an email with offensive words, repeated punctuation, words in all capitals, and unintended recipients. This is a really neat idea, so when you get mad at your supervisor you aren’t sending them an email with derogative wording and !!!, and sending it to your coworkers as well, and then wishing you could take it back. This is a life saver as well, I’m sure there’s been a point when we’ve sent an email out of anger with all the above and thought better of it later. I was really won over by this one.

Silencer is a great idea too. I know there’s been a few times that I forget to turn my silent profile back on to normal after a meeting, but if I could designate my phone to be silent only during those times without worrying about turning it back on, this would be great. There are different times you can choose for silence. You can choose to silence the phone for events shorter than 24 hrs, 12 hrs, 6 hrs, and 3 hrs. You can choose to quick silence for 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr and 4 hrs. It works from your calendar as well, making this a great set and go utility.

Forward Reply with Edit is such a sought for utility. No more forwarding with lists and unnecessary words because you can’t delete the original content. Feel free to clean the email and send.  There are apps that can do this, true, but not coming in the same utility tool box. I really like this utility as I sometimes don’t forward if there’s a list of addresses and a long subject I can’t delete. Not anymore.

Battery Watch is nice to have with the visual of the battery life, and when you go to details you can see the voltage, the temp of the battery, and how much remaining time you have for your talk time, Internet, Standby, Audio, and Video. Ever wonder how long you could talk or watch a movie before your battery is low? Wonder no more, the answer is in your hand. Again, this is extremely useful and it’s great information. Take the guess work out and be in the know zone.

Memory monitor alerts you to the memory on RAM and Storage. See it and read it. You have the option to Clear Cache and Details which are displayed in Ram and Flash in pie chart format. It’s broken down with RAM in Used and Free, and in Flash with Transient, Persistent, Applications, and Free. This too is good to have and in a format that you can read and make sense of. Seeing is believing.

So all in all after using the apps as you can see, I have to say that with memory issues and battery life, this utility is what’s going to make your BlackBerry an even smarter device, optimizing it for your use, whether it be professional and work related, or time off casually listening to some tunes.

CONS: I can’t find any cons as they all worked on my Tour and the utilities are easy to use and not at all hard to figure out.

PROS: I don’t know where to start because every single application/utility in the Tools is a very useful feature that functions and has a use. Every single Tool is a tool you will use daily if not every other day. It can only enhance your phone and its functions.

I can see the Tools for anyone who seriously uses their BlackBerry, from newbie to power user, this application is a Godsend for your BlackBerry. They are open to beta testers and I highly encourage you to download it and share your feedback with them. Let’s help make this app all it has the potential for.

I loaded fixmo onto my Curve this morning. It works beautifully except I can no longer use my regular phone icon to check missed calls. I can no longer use the call key (green key) to see list of previous calls. I can now only call via my address book.

The silence feature only turns off the ringer. You’re still left listening to message alerts.

    Nicole,

Thanks for the feedback. The silencer worked on everything for me. Please let the Fixmo Corp know from feedback any bugs or issues since they are working on it and it is in beta. My call button and all still works as well. So I’m not sure what happened, it may be software related. So if you let them know, I’m sure they would love that information and will work on it.

Tried the new fixmo apps, had to delete them cuz the 2 hour phone silencer would not let me turn the ringer back on.
