When you purchase the app, you have to make sure that your pin is correctly added. After purchasing, if you have the older version, you must uninstall the older version first. After rebooting I installed the new version. It installed easily, I inserted the activation code and began to look at the new version. The old version first appeared as a white umbrella from which you clicked and registered for the real icon to appear. This new one appears first as a red umbrella. I clicked and registered, and checked out this new upgrade.
As you can see by the pics, this new version has more settings and is extremely customizable. It’s also a really neat change to see not only Radar Maps, but webcams as well. You can also change the weather stations. Setting the wallpaper as your weather is nice too.
In General Settings, you can choose your units of temperature such as Fahrenheit or Celsius. You can choose whether or not to use Auto Update and how long in between updating. You can also choose the Advisory Auto Update settings as well. I usually check Autostart on boot device. There is Get Current Location from Cell or GPS, and choose your Networking transport (TCP/IP, BIS-B, WiFi, or BES).
Display Settings features the following options: Relative Time In Current Condition, in 24h Forecast, Set View For Each Location Separately, Setting the View, and Display Settings: Enable Animations; Optimize for Smooth Animation (uses more memory, Font size, Theme, Icon Set and the Background Image. You can also clear it.
Next is the Homescreen Icon, and from here you can set the Icon Title, set the Icon (w) key Shortcut to the icon, Show Temperature Badge on the Homescreen Icon, Temperature Badge Background, the Text, the Temperature Badge position, Show the Advisory Badge Icon, and for Home Location Only. Hide the Advisory Badge After Advisory Acknowledged. The Notification Icon can be shown as well. Advisories are nice so you’re not surprised. I used to subscribe to National Emergency Alerts, this is similar and more consistent.
Next is the Homescreen Wallpaper. You have the choices of: Show Current Conditions of Home Location as the Homescreen Wallpaper; Show Temperature; Show ‘Feels Like’ Temperature; Show Hi/Lo Temperature (Icon Centered Only); Show Observation Time; Style (Right, Left, or Centered), Backdrop (Off, 25% Transparent Black, 50% Transparent Black, and 75% Transparent Black); Margins; and Background Image.
Weather Advisories is next, with these options: Notify On New Advisory; Notify for Home Location Only; and Advisory Filter. You can show the popup using BerryPopup which I don’t have.
Last is Radar Maps. This gives you the following options: The Map Size and the Animation Length.
All in all, the ease of use and choices to use is wonderful. I can see the weekly forecast and the current weather and temperature when I click on it. I can add other locations, up to ten. I can see each on the Radar Map and change the views, and change the weather stations. It’s a nice to see each location’s advisory alerts, and see the temperatures. And having the current weather as my wallpaper, very nice. I don’t need to get into the app to see what the current conditions are. For myself, I set the wallpaper so I could view my weather, set up advisory alerts, and had the weather to update every hour.
PROS: completely customizable, easy to use, ability to add locations in case you want to check weather in other places, the GPS will move when you do, so if you take a trip, current location will reflect that, the ability to see the current Radar maps, making the weather the wallpaper.
CONS: This app is so filled with options and abilities, you could spend hours playing with it and forget the task at hand. Seriously though, it works great with my BlackBerry, and it has been my favorite app since I tried it. It may not be free, but whether you pay $9.99 for it, or $3.99 to upgrade it, it’s worth it.
