“Your Face..,” Â or “face the truth” has just begun to take on new meaning. Have you ever wondered what new entertainment you and your BlackBerry can share with your friends? In the BlackBerry Sync Store lies an app waiting for you to download called faceRate. For grins and giggles, how bout allowing science to rate a face?
The description of the app is as follows:
By simply taking a picture, and selecting a few facial features, the application will scientifically determine, on a scale of 1 to 10, the attractiveness of the face in question.
Ways faces are rated include:
The Golden Ratio
Rule of 5ths
I downloaded and installed the faceRate app on my BlackBerry Tour 9630, and it installed rather quickly. This is very important. Before opening and registering the app, be sure to go into Options/Advanced Options/Applications/faceRate and choose Edit Permissions. Make sure that Connections, Interactions, and User Data are all set to Allow. This is the only way that this app is going to work correctly.
As you can see, the icon is a purple with blue square with a drawn face with spikey hair. It gives you the first step of taking a pic. There will be a picture confirmation after taking the pic of Use Picture or Re-Take. Next it tells you that Examples can be found using the menu button. There is Example, Refresh Pic and Restart. First you align with the outer corner of left eye, so you move the line till it’s on the outer corner of the left eye. Next is align with the right corner of the right eye. Next is align the line with the left side of the nose, then the right. Next, align with the left corner of the mouth and then the right. Next align with the left side of the face then the right. Next align with the tip of the nose, then the top of the head, then the bottom of the chin, and then where the lips meet. It then gives you the rating due to the measurements of science and gives you the choice of save screenshot or delete the picture.
For the sake of the review I used Jim Balsillie. Who else would be better to rate? And look at how he got rated! Sorry Angelina Jolie, looks like faceRate feels Jim is better looking, since you only received an 8.3. It’s great for laughs and gives you some mild entertainment. I’m not too sure how scientifically true it is, but it’s entertaining all the same.
Cons: Only does pics you take, not pics you have saved unless you take a pic of them again. You don’t know what the answer will be, so be careful with significant others. Be sure they’re a good sport before “rating” them and letting them know the result.
Pros: Great entertainment, something new, and for $2.99, who can beat that? It’s harmless and allows you to see if there’s any truth in that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
You can decide for yourself what you think, and let us know. We’d like to know your feedback on this app, and how you were able to apply it.
