Susan,

I can't upgrade either unit because RIM broke something when they moved from 4.3 to 4.5 and didn't fix it when I tested it in the 4.7 OS for the Storm.

Specifically, they broke the ability to use 3-wire headsets on units. By this I mean that if you are happily listening to music on a 3-wire headset and a call comes in then your voice:
a) On OS 4.3, goes through the built-in microphone and you have a wonderful conversation. The mic just needs to be within about 2 - 2.5 ft away from your mouth

b) On OS 4.5 and higher, goes nowhere because the internal mic is switched off and there's no other mic to take over.

Normally this wouldn't be a big issue; you go out and buy a new 4-wire headset, done. In our case that headset happens to be our cars with the blackberry sitting on the cupholder and I'm not about to buy two new cars just so they'll work better with the blackberry.

So for now we'll stay on 4.3 until RIM fixes this issue. I haven't had the opportunity to test this on a Tour but if RIM fixes it then they have two new purchases coming their way. If they don't fix it then we'll hang on to our Curves with 4.3 till they fall apart.

You're welcome, and we thank Motek Mobile for making this possible. Bartok, please try upgrading your wife's phone. The 8330 should be sporting 4.5 software, on BIS. Try that and see if it works.

Thank you for the free download. It was wonderful. It was so wonderful I downloaded it to my wife's blackberry and it wasn't so wonderful. In fact it made her blackberry freeze. If ColorID was invoked a battery pull was needed to bring the unit back. I ultimately had to uninstall it from hers.

Both blackberries are Verizon 8330 Curves running 4.3 OS. Mine has some minor corporate BES policies and I added three people and it works just dandy. My wife's is a BIS only connection and I never could get ColorID to even get to the splash screen. It would just go to a blank screen and freeze the unit. Finally after a bunch of reboots I got the blackberry to stay up long enough to go to Options > Advanced > Applications and then removed it.

Ah well. I am thrilled to have the one copy and I guess I was being punished for being greedy.
