Review: Case-Mate’s Fuel Holster for BlackBerry Bold

casemate-fuel-bold2

Ever wish your holster could do more? The creative folks at Case-Mate recently introduced one of the coolest ideas for a holster I’ve seen yet. The Fuel holster by Case-Mate allows you to charge your device while on the go, with the press of a button. The fuel holster features a 2300 mA lithium polymer battery pack which provides about 7 additional hours of talk time or 20 additional days beyond the Bold’s standard battery life. So what do I think of the Fuel case overall? Let’s read on…

PhoneMag’s take on the BlackBerry Tour 9630 from Verizon

BlackBerry-Tour-PhoneMag-30-r3media

I know by now some of your might be getting sick of all the hands-on reviews of the BlackBerry Tour, but just think soon enough you will be able to get your own! Until then here is another hands-on review by the team at PhoneMag. In their review they have included some great pictures and a video review for you to enjoy. My favorite is they finish off the review with this line “If a hardware keyboard is a must, then the BlackBerry Tour may just be Verizon’s best device.” which sounds very promising for the Big Red carrier, also known as Verizon. So take a second and browse the review, drool and then post a comment and let us know how bad you want one…

U2, A Tour, A U2 Mobile Album, And A Tease!

new_11

Back when we first heard of the tour, the codename was the Niagara. When U2 announced their tour, the 360°, BlackBerry gave news of sponsoring the U2 Tour and also allowing U2 special priveleges into the “lab”  It was just the beginning. We had to know the Niagara would change.

Wasn’t long after that the Niagara became the Tour. We shouldn’t have been surprised, after all it would only be fitting that U2 have an influence over a BlackBerry World smartphone. The BlackBerry site has had information on the u2 Tour, and is linked to their site, and the 360° Tour began June 30th in Barcelona. It also has launched a site called the “BlackBerry loves U2″ on which it declares “Introducing the U2 Mobile Album”. Watching the teaser left me anticipating amazing outcomes. The concert is from the No Line On The Horizon, their latest cd. On the BlackBerry/U2 site, there is also the option to watch the Teaser Video, I’m really excited.

u2

The teaser seems to introduce an app, since I couldn’t find anything like that on the U2 site. It appears to include news, videos, and it says experience the Tour from all angles. According to a website,  @U2, the app  appears to have five sections: Album (No Line On The Horizon); News, 360 Tour; Who’s Listening; and Gallery. And knowing BlackBerry and U2, this will definitely be unique.

u2stadium

In the app there also appears to be a viewing of the stadium, I’m guessing it’s a way to unite U2 fans to U2, identifying the band and your friends in the stadium! One thing I can say about U2, they are very much political and outspoken in their views, believe in everyone everyone coming together as one (isn’t the BlackBerry Nation somewhat the same?), it just works.  I also noticed they are coming with the Black Eyed Peas. Hmm, didn’t Will I Am make the  “Hit Me On My BlackBerry” song? Coincidence?

If you’re interested in U2 and the Tour, please check it out here and sign up for the U2 Mobile Album, I know I did!

Review: radioBee v1.6 By Smart Mobile Solutions Inc., Powered By SHOUTcast Radio

radiobeedef

RadioBee Mobile Internet Radio Player is the newest app to the scene for radio, and it’s powered by SHOUTcast Radio. Brought to you by Smart Mobile Solutions Inc., it is available for download to BlackBerry smartphones for $9.95 from the BlackBerry Sync Store.

Features include:

  • - searches, organizes and plays live internet radiostations on the Blackberry
  • - fast access to more than 75000 stations
  • - new UI
  • - Proprietary real-time audio play
  • - Runs in the background
  • - no interference with user applications
  • - NEW BES support
  • - use BlackBerry volume buttons and trackball
  • - supports SHOUTcast stations and Icecast stations
  • - Reliability rating and playing rating for all stations
  • - Bluetooth audio streaming to your car or home audio
  • I downloaded the app with no problems to my Curve 8330. When downloaded, a small icon of a white square with a bee appears. Clicking on it brings up the screen with a white background and green boxes. This is the player of the radioBee. By default you have the following stations listed: Texas Country; Radio Show Net; The All Sports Network; ESPN WWNB; and you are able to add to this list. The green box to your top right shows the status of the player: Stopped, Buffering; or Playing.

I went through the different channels, and while there is a large selection to choose from, most of the stations would buffer and stop. Customer service is very prompt and fast however, and they gave me some tips such as to bypass genre and type in what I was looking for to search. Which leads me to the next section, how to add the channels. Clicking the options key gives the following options: Start player; Hot Picks; Search SHOUTcast(TM…); Search other stations; Favorites; Add Station by URL; Background; Last News; Setup; About; and Close. Hot Picks are the Picks of the Month, it always remained blank for me. Search for Stations Powered By SHOUTcast(TM) leads to a list of Search For: and several genres. Favorites lists all that are on the player and those you’ve added. Add by URL allows you to add a radio if you know the real broadcasting address of the Internet radio stations. The current supported servers are SHOUTcast and Icecast. Background allows you to leave the radio playing in the background as you do other things with the phone. This is one thing I really did like, that you could even back out of the radio player, and it will continue playing, like some other radios do. About displays the version and name of the app.

Now they were quick with tech support as I could not get very many stations to play, and whether it’s my location that is in the heart of the SouthWest, whether it’s my wireless carrier, or the fact my phone is CDMA and not GSM based, who knows. But I wasn’t able to get many stations past buffering and stopped. I looked up rock, classic rock, indie rock, punk rock, Beatles, and even 70’s and 80’s music. I found two that actually played.

I really do like the idea of the app, and hope that they can improve the reception or selection of radio stations, but for now for my phone and current carrier, it just didn’t work too well. I wanted it to work, I tried everything, including contacting them for suggestions and ideas, and they were very quick to answer. With apps like Pandora, Slacker, and even Nobex Radio Companion, there’s some competition at hand, so for a price I was looking for the same reception and reliability with radio service that I have received with these three, but for some reason it didn’t meet that. I really do hope that they can improve the app and work on it, it has potential.

Pros: Basic interface, easy usage, and a wide selection of stations and genres to choose from. Can be played in the background while you answer emails, texts, etc.

Cons: Not many radio stations work past buffering or stop, so while there’s a selection, there aren’t many that actually play. The app is $9.95 to purchase.

If you have tried the radioBee, or have purchased it, please share your experience with it or your thoughts and opinions, we’d really like to know what you think.

Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 Unboxed by BGR, Good News to Report!

    normal_verizonblackberrytour1

Who else but Boy Genius has unboxed the Verizon BlackBerry Tour before release. BGR happy to report that Verizon’s Tour is hot and sexy, plus sports a new battery door with soft rubber and carbon-fiber plus included in box is a actual leather holster, not a pouch like most of the newer RIM devices. Enjoy this teaser of pictures until Verizon officially releases the Tour on July 12th.

    • The battery door isn’t all glossy anymore which was scratch city. It’s got soft-touch rubber on the outer part and the inner part is a carbon-fiber material. Really, really sharp.
    • The dark chrome bezel which is also found on the BlackBerry Onyx looks stunning on the Verizon Tour.
    • The device comes with a BlackBerry leather holster!
