It doesn’t work for US locations only. It provides data from web based stores – most which ship to Canada.

There’s more US users of Viigo than Canadian ones.

It’s less than 15kb.

I don’t know where BlackBerry Sync is located, but I live in BC, Canada. I downloaded the app/launcher, only to find that it works only for USA locations. What is Canada – an afterthought? Please don’t provide these reviews to a Canadian owned reader {Viigo – but they don’t care anyway}, and then allow us to be duped into downloading a >500kb app/launcher.

Facebook’s iphone application is actually a web application. In fact, many of the most popular iphone apps use this model. It’s called a thin-client app. The component residing on the phone gives access to the OS.

This is possible for BlackBerry as well. A simple example is doing an http post with device GPS lat/longs for use in location based features of the web app. Or you can build a full out wrapper around the web app and offer client side buttons.

I find thin client apps tend to perform better than their heavier client side counterparts. And annoying upgrades aren’t as necessary. If it’s optimized for use with the device in question, what’s the difference? It’s still an app.

Susan, its not just you. I don’t know where it starting but even App World itself offers “apps” that are merely launchers. Some even CHARGE the $2.99 minimum for a freaking launcher!

But yeah, it IS important to note the difference.

Thank you DavidB for the correction, I know it’s a launcher, I didn’t mean to confuse the app with the launcher, and a site. I’m going to have to pay more attention to my wording. I’ll make sure I note that in future posts between apps and launchers.
