First off let me start this with a huge shout out my the folks at CrackBerry for yet again getting their hands on this BlackBerry prototype. Previous pictures of the BlackBerry Gemini showed it as sporting interchangeable faceplates and normal trackball, but the new live pics provided today show off the 8520’s new Optical side. So I would to introduce you to an actual production unit of the BlackBerry Curve 8520 (aka Gemini). The 8520 will unfortunately lack 3G and keep the boring 2.0 megapixel camera (now without flash?), but will sport a new optical trackball and interchangeable faceplates and Wi-Fi. Interesting enough it seems that RIM will be offering this device as part of the Curve series and will bring even more multimedia functions including rewind, forward and play buttons located at the top of the device. Not only that but the 8520 will also sport a iPhone like back made from metal and rubber (pretty hot!). Anyway enjoy these pics for now and I’m sure we will see a hands on review coming up shortly…

    That’s cute!!but can it do what the iphone can do!! Its that simple beat. Apple at their own game

    @bambam
    It’s a blackberry.
    Aside from a smaller selection of games and a not as fancy UI (and not the best compatibility with Macs), it whups the iPhone’s butt all the way to Ontario. then flushes it down the loo.

    iirc the iphone doesn’t have dedicated media keys ad a swappable faceplate.

    RIM spits out new BlackBerry models like every couple of months. Apple puts out one iPhone a year and each is nearly the same on the outside.

    The biggest difference i think between BlackBerry and Apple is that once you go BlackBerry you will always stay BlackBerry. Also another great thing is that there is more to customize with the BB than the iPhone, there are some really cool themes for the BB but the iPhone has the same interface

    I have to wonder what’s up with RIM continuously bastardizing the Curve name brand? I guess they must feel compelled to keep the name so that sales stats lumping 83xx and 85xx and 89xx Curve models all together will show the Curve outselling the iPhone?
