Excel At Your Own Pace With Free GridMagic CE!
In keeping up with remembering that many of the best things in life are free, especially with today’s economy, here’s the latest free software from the BlackBerry Sync Store that is FREE.
I know that the Docs To Go that are loaded on the BlackBerry 4.5 OS and above do have Word and PowerPoint compatible office apps, it does have a free upgrade available for Spreadsheet To Go, and a purchase version too with PDF to Go (I’d advise the free upgrade first should you upgrade and if picture texting stop working, delete the program before calling tech support and see if it resolves the issue. If no problems arise, you’re free to do the paid version). Well there is a program that is free, in fact the only free, spreadsheet app. The app is GridMagic CE v3.3.0.201 by Simprit Pte Ltd. I know it’s a constant question by professionals about the Excel programs, well look no further than GridMagic. There is a family of GridMagic and this version CE, stands for Community Edition. It has basic features free for personal and educational use.
Features include:
I downloaded the app, and while I don’t keep any Excel documents on my BlackBerry, it does have sample Excel sample files of a loan calculator and one for contacts, and there are instructions for use of the app. You have a fifteen day period to register and purchase the GridMagic Standard or Professional, but for basic use the Community Edition works fine. But you do have the full Standard version for fifteen days. The CE version has basic viewing features and BlackBerry integration, the Standard version ($19.95) has basic viewing, basic editing, limited advanced features, downloadable workbook apps and templates, and up to 100Kb attachments, the Professional version ($49.95) has everything the Standard does but with any size attachment and fully advanced features.

Huh? There is no charge for the Sheet To Go spreadsheet app. Some old old old OS 4.5 builds didn’t initially include Sheet To Go I remember, but as soon as you used Docs the first time you had to register it and then you were offered a FREE upgrade download that included Sheet To Go. But recent builds of 4.5 haven’t done that and no build of 4.7 has ever that I recall.
David, having worked with a few us carriers, there was an issue last year when 4.5 came out that if you upgraded the Docs To Go to get the Spreadsheet, then it interfered with the picture texting,(Alltel was one of them) to make it simple, you could neither send nor receive picture texting. I’m not sure if it was resolved, so I didn’t even mention the fact it can be upgraded for that reason. The only resolution then was to delete docs to go and reinstall keeping the original docs to go on the phone. Also now, depending on what programs you have installed the Docs to Go may not be compatible as far as the upgrade. Thank you for reminding me about 4.7, I missed that.
All well and good Susan, but stating “but requires you to purchase the upgraded version to have an Excel compatible doc app included” is simply untrue and innacurate to state as such in the review of a competing application. Makes a review appear to be partisan or simply shilling for a particular company if you make untrue statements about the free competition. Regardless, I guess I don’t see from your response how the problem that caused you to make that claim would be resolved with the premium version of Docs to Go? Really? The free version of Sheets to Go interferes with picture messaging on Alltel but the paid version does not?
I don’t know about the paid version, I can say firsthand that I had done the upgrade to the free version myself and then had my picture text stop working. It never donned on me it was related. I called tech about it and after different attempts to restore they finally asked me about the docs to go and told me I had to delete the app and use the BDM to reload and not to upgrade the app because there was a known issue. I thought they were pulling my leg until I did as they said and my pic text was restored. It may have been resolved but I never reattempted the upgrade. Now when I try on my current phone, it says it’s incompatible with my current files, so I don’t know. I never attempted the paid version if the next step up wouldn’t work, and we alerted customers when we found out, and found others had done the same and weren’t able to use pic texting as well, so we just advised them to not update the program until it was resolved which we were never alerted to.
