First shots of BlackBerry Niagara 9630 – CDMA Bold/Curve 8900 Crossover!

CrackBerry has shown us the first live pictures of the heavely rumored BlackBerry Niagara. In case you don’t know what “Niagara” is it’s going to be the CDMA Bold/Curve combonation featuring a CDMA/EVDO Rev. A Radio with 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS and of course a full QWERTY keyboard. Apparently RIM might have cut plans to include Wi-Fi in this bad boy. The Niagara looks to be a mix of both the BlackBerry Bold and Curve 8900 “Javelin” to swing a bit of both worlds in there.

Two questions: Will RIM call this the Bold 9630? and who wants one even without Wi-Fi?

    Well, I have survivied without wi fi so far, since the other cdma models of BB’s don’t have it. It would be a nice addition though too bad they do not want to include it

    Without WiFi – I wouldn’t touch it. I use the wifi all the time and it’s fantastic for those without ‘all-you-can-eat’ data plans.

    To me, Niagara is a downgrade from the Bold.

    Aren’t you required to have an ‘all-you-can-eat’ data plan with a BlackBerry? The choices I was given when I got my Storm was $29.99 if I want to use just personal email or $44.99 if I want corporate email through a BES.

    Also, I think that since this device is CDMA, it’s either for Verizon or Sprint(most likely Verizon). With that said, CDMA data coverage is far greater than GSM data coverage in the USA. It seems that AT&T uses wi-fi on their models out of necessity. I don’t really see why Verizon would exclude it because I think it would lessen the burden on their network, thus keeping more people happy, but still…it isn’t a necessity on Verizon WIreless. I get decent download speeds on my device as it is. I never wait more than a few seconds(maybe up to 10) for my pages to load.

    I really hope this is just like the Bold (but with the minor differences. The lack of Wi-FI doesnt really bother me). I just want a nice new blackberry on Verizon, and not the Storm cause the Storm sucks. Does anybody know when this would possibly come out?

    It’s definitely a nice looking phone. From the front it looks like a smaller Bold, and from the side it looks like the 8900 Curve. And with all of the pictures that have been surfacing I would say it shouldn’t be too long before it’s in stores. Any sure dates yet? can’t even it on http://www.Niagara-BlackBerry.com I hope it will come out sooner or later.

    I know that the storm has a faster processor for the applications but doesn’t have the wi-fi. I personaly like the 8900 curve even though I’m with verizon, I would have to say that the storm sucks by comparison. I’ve wanted the 8900 for some time but don’t like T-mobile. Instead, I’ll just keep using my 8330 curve until Verizon decides to take a better look at the needs of people that use these BB’s for other than just calls and email. A faster processor sounds REALLY good to me because the ability to “flow” though the phones features keeps me feeling secure that the phone isn’t locking up. My 8330 does every now and then, but usually when trying to handle heavy loads. As for the wifi, I use it when available, but it’s not a necessity to me. Give me the 8900 curve with the Storm processor “but on verizon” and I’ll be happy for years!!
