RIM to axe BlackBerry Unite and Professional Software

Ronen from BerryReview got a tip that RIM has spread word among carriers that they will be killing off the BlackBerry Unite and Professional Software pretty soon (July). Apparently RIM has no plans to release any new versions of either software and will cut off customer support by 2010.

BlackBerry Unite had the potential to become a great software, it allowed a family or small business to get BES like capabilites with sharing calendars, contacts and even files. My breif interaction with BlackBerry Unite wasn’t the best, however I felt it had potental to do very well with some minor improvements. It’s sad that RIM never did get it to where it should have been. The BlackBerry Professional software was a low end BES solution that offer small companies a mini BES at 1/3 of the price.

Hopefully RIM has something better planned for later this year? Personal BES? I wish.
