Mac users to get Desktop Manager next year?
Myself I’ve been a long time Mac user, but have always done my backups on a PC. Finally it appears that RIM might actually be doing something to help out Mac users. A source has reported to CIO.com that RIM is working on plans to either develop a Mac verison of their Desktop Manager software or work with third party companies to provide the same features as a PC would have. The new software is expected to be seen sometime during the first half of 2009.
I have to say that if this is true I really hope RIM brings out their own version of DTM as I’m sick of dual-booting my Mac just to do backups and OS upgrades.

I hope sooner than later. I want to get rid of my PC and it would be nice to have DTM for Mac.
I hope that they don’t waste their time creating a Desktop Manager client for Macs. Before you call me a Mac hater keep reading! I think they would be much better off with a cross platform Web Desktop Manager. There is already a Web Desktop Manager for BES enviroments. Why not adapt it for non-BES or Mac users.
d_fisher – you bring up a very good point! A web-based desktop manager for BIS users would be a great idea BUT it wouldn’t hurt RIM in the least bit to create this software for mac users as well.
A cross platform app would be unfeasible due to it essentially would be required to be Java, which would not be able to hook into system APIs for bluetooth syncing and the USB driver, among other things.
