I managed to set up hotmail on the blackberry. I can send email but it seems like I am not receiving any emails. I will wait for some more time and if the problem persists I might re-enable my hotmail plus, unless someone recommends a solution to this.
March 11th, 2008 at 12:05 am
how do you login to the software?
March 11th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Works awesome. Very slick, and easy. I love shit like this! Nice tip.
March 11th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Jen: To “login”, just login into your windows live email as per normal (to read your hotmail, etc.). Then click the tools tab and options, etc, follow the directions.
Then go to your provider’s blackberry email account login. (Ex: telusmobility.com/blackberryemail) login into that and add your hotmail account and you should be good. You will see an automated message on your BB within minutes in your new account inbox.
March 11th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
I tried all that and got no automated message on my BB. Any other ideas?
March 11th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Well I didn’t do what everyone else did, but I found a way around the issue. Instead of downloading Hotmail onto my phone (I was told I can’t by my provider), I simply used my yahoo account on my phone. I went to the options in my hotmail account and asked for the emails to be ALSO forwarded to my yahoo account, so now I get emails that go from my hotmail account, to my yahoo account and then to my blackberry. There is no delay in the transit, so this might be a bit of a long way of doing things, but it works for me! Hope this helps.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:34 am
well I was able to add the hotmail account but I don’t receive any emails. Oh well it half worked.
March 12th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Anyone have any clue why when I set up my hotmail on the web it is not sending anything to my BB? Do i need to use the BIS 2.4? Or is it because I am using BES for my work email?
March 13th, 2008 at 12:17 am
forwarding would work great for me since i have a working email with BIS, but I want to keep a copy of the message on my non pop working hotmail, and I can’t do that, I am forced to forward 1 copy only and a copy doesn’t stay on the original email…. anyway to change this in hotmail? THX
March 16th, 2008 at 11:03 am
(Ishan) - I’m with you, I have the BB pearl. I seem to have no problem sending messages to others, but its the Recieving of messages that I can’t do. I followed all those messanger live logon tips, but nothing changes this. Really, forwarding my account to yahoo or gmail or whatever is not really the option. Seems stupid I can only do half of the functions. Any ideas out there??
Ishan, did you manage to get it to work properly?
March 17th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
I did everything everyone said…and I still can’t receive my hotmail messages on my BB. I can send to others from the BB…but can’t get anything back. HELP!! I also can’t figure out how to forward to another email. Is this only an option with the Hotmail plus?
March 18th, 2008 at 10:10 am
I just setup my hotmail on this site:
http://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=mycingular
And I’m able to send and receive hotmail on my blackberry.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I bit the bullet and did the upgrade to hotmail plus. then went to the BIS site and set it up and it worked immediately. appears that is the sure fire way to get this working. when you break it down, it’s only $1.66/ month.
March 21st, 2008 at 2:42 pm
DEA how did you upgrade to hotmail plus? I just started using Windows Live Mail and can’t figure out how to upgrade and pay.

March 28th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
So, I did this and the delay is anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes before an email hits my BB. Any ideas how to make this quicker?
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:42 pm
That was a pretty sweet tip right there. I just hooked it up on my email and it seems to be working perfectly. Nice.
April 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
ummm … i don’t know the big problem, I just forewarded my mail directly to my blackberry mail address from hotmail, I did a test, and got it on my blackberry in less than 2 minutes … so yea, I’m with rogers, not sure the problem … just forward it directly to you BB account
April 10th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
I tried the first tip of loggiing into hotmail and then going to tools and then options at the toolbar at the top of the webpage. There was no “maintenance” option.
Is Hotmail Plus definitely POP capability that it will work with BB? I am not using the BB internet service, since I am using my mobile service provider’s internet service
April 12th, 2008 at 11:05 am

April 18th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Hi, i have but is no comming the mails to my BB please help me
April 19th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
If you got multiple e-mail addresses then either forward your main hotmail account to another e-mail account that is not a hotmail account and you should be able to send and receive through that.
or if all fails then pay for the premium hotmail service!
April 21st, 2008 at 11:56 am
Doesn’t work i have 2 accounts of hotmail, and only can send emails from mi BB but no receive nothing. i hate this
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
I tried what Debra Said. That one worked for me.
Debra,
is there a way set alerts for this ? currently only option i got is to go to hotmail.com and do a refresh.
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Debra,
Your approach worked.
But its same as the one that i had it working earlier.
Earlier i was able to go to the mobile browser , type hotmial.com, enter username and password. that worked earlier.
Even in the new approach its the same (New approach of using mobileWeb). Right now this works. But microsoft might make it a paid one in future. Also in this i got one txt msg so far. So if your provider charges your txt message then you may want to think twice about this new approach. So far i have only got one txt msg so fine. Also i dont know how to unsubscribe this one if incase i keep getting lots of txt msgs. Need to investigate this.
But its so irritating why hotmail /blackberry is not offering this to their customers free of charge where as everyone else offers it for free.
April 24th, 2008 at 5:53 pm

thank u for everything uv done
April 25th, 2008 at 7:00 am
when i go into MY inbox on hotmail …there is a tools tab but only an internet options tab after that so I just cant get to do ANY of the things you guys say that you have done ? what am i doing wrong please ?
April 26th, 2008 at 7:01 am
the ‘tools’ menu does not show by default on installation of ‘live mail’ for windows and you have to select the dropdown option of ’show all menus’ if you want to see it.
you just need to locate the ‘options’ function on one of the menus (just look around) and then go to ‘advanced’ and continue as suggested by the author here.
i also am not sure why this tip works (it did in my case) since all you are doing is maintaining troubleshooting logs by activating the feature. it may be a bug from MS end but a useful one it is.
btw - i still think MS sucks for forcing such tactics on people even when they are going down.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Man I was trying so hard to figure this out and really bummed that it was not working, but this little tip worked, you are a life saver thanks
May 13th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
The easiest thing to do without having to pay for a (free) hotmail account is to have all your messages forwarded to ya blackberry account. All the messages will also be save to ya hotmail account. Saves money, time, and headache of calling the phone carriers.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:21 am
The problem w/ fwding is that friends people w/ tight spam filters will not receive my mail because on the unknown bb (or other) address.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:58 am
i was able to follow the instructions and find the advanced tap in options after downloading the new Live client software. After changing the settings outlined above, i successfully registered the hotmail account via my att.bb site.
I am able to send mail but do not receive mail. very frustrating to say the least.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
idk about you guys, but i simply (on my att curve i got this week) typed in my hotmail email address and password and it worked instantly. no hotmail plus, no nothing. and it asks me (if i want to delete an item) on mailbox and handheld, or just on handheld. and i tried on mailbox as well, and when i went to my c, it worked, and the thing i deleted on my b was in my deleted folder. its not always ENtirely instant, but withen a reasonable amt of time. i also read that this is some new partnership from msn/hotmail to try and stay competitive against all the others.
good luck
May 15th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
I did the same with my pearl last winter and it worked fine. it even worked fine a second time when I set up my buddies in april
May 19th, 2008 at 7:44 am
I just got the verizon bb curve this past weekedn and cannot receive my hotmail emails on it…i tried to fwd the mail from my hotmail acct and it wont let me ….any ideas on how to make this work? i really dont want to upgrade my hotmail acct or change emails if i dont have too.
May 22nd, 2008 at 11:42 am
FYI, hotmail and blackberry had a fight and they will not support hotmail on their devices. They supposedly are coming to some kind of agreement but seems far off, so, get yourself an email account specifically for your device!
May 23rd, 2008 at 12:26 am
Yea so I’ve been working at T-mobile for 3 weeks now and I just got my Curve and I’d like to use hotmail on it but it wont let me.
I didn’t opt to connect to the BES, so can I just get my hotmail email pushed to my device?
Also, if the application download methods described above don’t work, can they be reversed?
I heard when you download all these diff apps your device starts to act up.
HELPPPPPPP, I need a surefire, safe, reliable way to get hotmail on my phone!!!
Hotmail is my LIfe!!!!!!
May 29th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
I can’t even access the hotmail website from my 8830, let alone redirect my email to it. It keeps giving me a Javascript error saying it does not support it. Any ideas?
May 29th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
If I subscribe to Windows Live Hotmail Plus (the $20 a year one) will I DEFINITELY be able to get hotmail messages on my brand new blackberry curve? I got it today and I’m so frustrated … trying to find ANY way to get my hotmail account on it easily. The above instructions didn’t work for me. I only need to read/reply to messages - none of the other features interest me .. but of course I cannot forward to a new account or the blackberry account. Please help!
May 30th, 2008 at 6:14 am
Keep in mind everyone that this little trick may not work 100% but Microsoft and RIM have announced they will be teaming up to support Hotmail on BlackBerry devices very soon.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Anyone know exactly WHEN they will start working together? All I can find in the press releases is “expected this summer.”
May 31st, 2008 at 6:28 pm
It didn’t work on my BB-curve. Any other suggestions?
June 1st, 2008 at 12:27 am
bought 2 new curves today at the att store, could not add hotmail account to the phones for approx 9 hours, then on the phones went to add personal email account, typed in userid and password and it worked all of a sudden, just like my yahoo mail
June 1st, 2008 at 3:26 pm
I tried everything and still cannot get the email to be sent to my BB8310..I can send. Im hoping that it just takes a while…I had no problem on my 8300. i have no idea
June 1st, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I guess what I am experienceing…Is my hotmail account works perfect, but I got my wife a new BB yesterday and her hotmail wont sync her inbox…I put my email account on her phone and it works perfectly. I put hers on her bb or my bb and nothing ….its crazy
June 4th, 2008 at 8:46 am
There is no rhyme or reason to this. I have a 8830 BB, with Sprint. Added my 2001 regular hotmail account no problem. Wife just got Pearl with Alltel, couldn’t even add her 2000 hotmail account until doing the windows live work around. My account added to her phone no prob btw. Her account sends but won’t receive. M$ sucks.
June 11th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Dre, after you upgrade to plus, do you have to delete then add your hotmail account on your BB agan? or should it work automatically. I just paid it and I’m waiting for it to work…
June 11th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
OK HERE IS THE SOLUTION TO YOUR HOTMAIL EMAILS ON YOUR BB…I have the 8830 world edition for verizon…Basically, i’ve tried it all and the answer is this link
http://get.live.com/mailplus/features
You must upgrade to windows hotmail live plus for $19.99/yr. Then add and/or re-add your hotmail on your BB (using email setup on your BB) and YOU ARE READY to go!…it worked perectly for me! good luck!
June 14th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I did the windlowslive procedure, but still unable to add the hotmail account on BB.
Plz suggest anyother solution.
June 15th, 2008 at 1:54 am
I have T Mobile and I upgraded my hotmail account to Plus and I was still unable to add the account on my BB.
I then decided to forward my messages to my BB email. Before I upgraded to Plus I was unable to forward to any other server except MSN providers.
Now that I upgraded, I am able to forward the email to any provider and keep copies in my hotmail account.
I tested it with an email to myself and I recieved it on my phone instantly. Thats good enough for me.
June 15th, 2008 at 1:56 am
Cont….. The above action is also great for those who do not need internet service on your phone.
I only need emails sent to me so this saves money from having a plan that calls for internet access.
June 16th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
you can not forward your hotmail account to another email account unless its a hotmail, msn or live account..
June 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I was able to get to my hotmail account from my blackberry by doing the following:
1) On your blackberry web browser, press menu key and select Go To… from the drop down and enter mobile.msn.com
2) On the mobile web page select the Hotmail link in upper left corner of web page (it’s the first link)
3) In the Windows Live Id page select the first link: @hotmail.com
4) In the next page enter your email address in the first box (i.e. fontaic for me). You don’t have to enter the .hotmail.com portion
In the next box enter your password and click the “sign in” link
5) You should now be in your hotmail account (click the blackberry menu button and select Add Bookmark from the drop down)
June 19th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
ok.. The Options as i have found with my Verizon BB Pearl are:
1.) Using the phones Browser type http://www.mobile.live.com Then enter you e-mail and password.
2.) Pay the $20/yr for the Plus Access.
3.) Foward your e-mail from your Hotmail Acct. to another Acct accessable through your BB.
June 21st, 2008 at 3:02 am
Viper:
You can forward it to any email if you pay to upgrade your free account to a “Plus” account which costs $19 a year.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Once again, I have the Verizon 8830 BB World Edition. All I had to do was upgrade to the “plus” hotmail and then AFTER you have, just go to “set up wizard” on your BB and add your email account. I did not have to FWD anything, it comes the same way as my Yahoo. It worked for my brother as well yesterday. Good luck!
July 10th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I set mine up using the blackberry.orange.co.uk site and i can send and receive from my hotmail! good times!
July 14th, 2008 at 12:11 am

August 8th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Hey If you go to http://www.msn.com then click hotmail you can sign into your account and check emails.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
i did everything what Charlie said and work : )
Thank you!
August 21st, 2008 at 11:36 am
ok i had the same issues with my hotmail and my blackberry nothing will fix this combo, but i found a way to go around it, get a windows live id(you@live.com) then go to your hotmail acct options and forward your emails to your windows live acct, then on your blackberry delete the hotmail acct. then add your new windows live acct, and you will get your emails in about 10mins no joke it works!you might want to change accts to windows live anyway!
