June 20th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in 8800 series, BlackBerry, Canada, Telus

Telus branded 8830Alright it's now official. Telus has officially started getting it's employees and clients pumped for the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. It's now officially listed as one of their phones coming soon. BlackBerry Sync has got all the official documents and pricing and it goes like this:

  • 3 Year Contract (with voice & data plan) $299.99
  • 3 Year Contract (no data) $499.99
  • 2 Year Contract $549.99
  • 1 Year Contract $599.99
  • Month to Month (No Contract) $649.99

From what we get Telus has blocked the GPS part so they can offer their Telus Navigator service. One really neat feature Telus is adding to this device is their Mobile Music Store (which would allow unlimited music downloads for $20). International roaming will cost you an arm and leg, the pricing follows like this: If you sign up before October 1, 2007 you get 50% off international roaming (United States is not included). The rate for international roaming is $51.20/MB CAD but with your 50% off your looking at $25.60 per MB. Ouch.

The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition starts shipping June 29th and should be available just a few days after that in all stores. We aren't sure why it was delayed exactly buy I guess they got all problems fixed for now. Read over for more on the 8830.

i have the 8830 and have downloaded navigator twice and am not impressed. keeps losing the satellite even though my XM is accessing the signal. if you change your route it seems to completely throw the thing off. the mapping software that came with my 8830 shows me where i am and folows me without any problem when i’m testing it. i think BB needs to have an antenna for the device and that may overcome the problems. i certainly don’t think it is worth the subscription fee the way it works now.
